Granville Co. Chamber Cancels ‘Cluck ‘N Shuck’ Event

In accordance with CDC guidelines, the Granville County Chamber Board of Directors will cancel the April 3, 2020,  ‘Cluck ‘N Shuck’ seafood fundraiser event. If you have purchased a ticket, please contact the Chamber office at (919) 693-6125 or email wanda@granville-chamber.com for a refund.

The Chamber apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause but feels this action is appropriate.

In celebration of 78 years in operation, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors announces the Annual Banquet will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., at Vance-Granville Community College’s Civic Center/Main Campus.

Banquet sponsors are BB&T, CertainTeed, LLC, Duke Energy, Granville Health System, Hicks and Wrenn LLP, Vanness Chevrolet and The School of Graphic Arts.

Twenty years following “the devastation of Columbine,” Kacey Johnson shares her inspiring story with audiences across the U.S., as a speaker and an author. Her newly-released book, “Over My Shoulder” coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Columbine shooting. Johnson says it took her nearly that long to come to terms with what happened to her that day and to finally be able to reclaim her life.

The evening will once again include the presentation of the Chamber’s most prestigious award, the John Penn Citizen of the Year Award, recognizing outstanding community service.

A buffet dinner will be prepared and served by Chamber member Simply Delicious Catering of Creedmoor.

Tickets are $40 each. Corporate tables of 8, with reserved seating, are available for $300. Corporate tables of 10, reserved seating, are available for $380. Tickets/reservations are REQUIRED prior to the event. Invitations have been sent via email this year, rather than via the postal service.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Recognition Committee announces that the committee is accepting nominations for the 2020 John Penn Citizen of the Year Award.  This prestigious award, named for Granville County’s signer of the Declaration of Independence, is presented at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Banquet.

The 2020 event will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College.

Nomination forms may be obtained at a Chamber office or may be downloaded from the Chamber’s website, www.granville-chamber.com.

Columbine Shooting Survivor to Speak at Annual Granville Chamber Banquet

In celebration of its 78th anniversary, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2020 Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet on Monday, January 27, 2020, at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.

The guest speaker for the occasion will be Kacey Ruegsegger Johnson, a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. Come hear her inspiring story of the devastation of Columbine and her “arduous recovery for her body and soul.”

Tickets are available for $40 per guest. Reserved seating for corporate tables of eight is available for $300, corporate tables of 10 for $380.

Granville Chamber to Hold Annual Thanksgiving Breakfast

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Thanksgiving Breakfast will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at 7:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center of Oxford Baptist Church, Main Street, Oxford.

Although there is no charge to attend the breakfast, attendees are requested to bring non-perishable food donations (canned food) for Area Congregations In Ministry (ACIM).

Attendees may expect the customary Southern buffet breakfast, prepared by volunteer men at Oxford Baptist Church. No one will leave hungry as we depart to begin the Thanksgiving holiday celebration!

The School of Graphic Arts/Masonic Home for Children is continuing its tradition of providing attendees with desk calendars for 2020.

Also, the Chamber will be officially kicking off its promotion for the National SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY – SHOP LOCAL  – SHOP GRANVILLE by providing attendees with Shop Small tote bags filled with swag from Granville County small businesses. This annual event will be held on Saturday, November 30.

Bridgestone’s continued sponsorship of this annual event spans 25+ years. The November Thanksgiving breakfast began as an industry-sponsored breakfast, and Bridgestone has graciously remained the event supporter for all these years. Granville Chamber’s ‘Cluck ‘N Shuck’ Postponed Until Spring

Late last week, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee was notified by the event chairman of their annual Cluck ‘N Shuck event that the event caterer had contacted him regarding the very limited supply of oysters.

The recent storms in the Gulf and Atlantic have drastically limited the availability of fresh oysters. All oyster bottoms are closed in North Carolina, and all of the Gulf oysters have been drenched as a result of wind from storms. The water is too fresh, and the bottoms are closed.

Rather than move forward with an alternate menu for the Friday, October 25 Cluck ‘N Shuck event, the Chamber’s Executive Committee thought it prudent to postpone the event until spring.

The new date for Cluck ‘N Shuck is being planned for March 2020.

Ticket holders for the October 25, 2019, event may return their tickets to the 124 Hillsboro St., Oxford Chamber office for a full refund of the purchase price or they may retain and use their tickets in the spring of 2020.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors apologizes to our ticket holders and sponsors for any inconvenience this may cause.

Late October Brings 9th Annual ‘Cluck ‘N Shuck’ Event to Granville Co.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their ninth annual fall seafood event – “CLUCK ‘N SHUCK,” to be held Friday, October 25, 2019, from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at The Red Barn – Golf Course Road, off Lake Devin Road, in Oxford.

Caterer Leon Nixon’s dinner menu offerings include steamed oysters, fried shrimp, fried fish, fried chicken tenders, slaw, buttered potatoes, hushpuppies, tea, Pepsi-Cola products and cold beverages.

The event will be held at the venue – The Red Barn – where it has been held the past six years. This location provides an incredible setting for those desiring to eat on the decks overlooking Lake Devin. Inside seating on the ground floor of The Red Barn is also available.

Advanced ticket sales – $40 per person or two tickets for $75 – includes all-you-can-eat on the premises.

Coincidentally, this concert is leading into an exciting weekend in downtown Oxford  – the annual North Carolina Hot Sauce Contest, which will be held Saturday, September 14. Plan to spend quite a bit of time meeting, greeting, visiting, shopping, dining and lodging in Oxford.

Concession vendors Chick-fil-A of Henderson will be offering their famous chicken sandwiches and soft drinks; Williamson’s Country Store and Grill from Bullock will be offering hot dogs, fried bologna sandwiches, French fries, soft drinks, etc. There will be Coca-Cola and Long Beverage products.

The Chamber’s Alive After Five outdoor event is free to attend. Come early, bring a chair, listen to the incredible music, dance and enjoy visiting with friends. The last Alive After Five event of 2019 will be a night to remember as Jim Quick and Coastline Band takes the stage!
