Granville Chamber’s 7th Annual Golf Tournament Rescheduled for Oct. 6

Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s  7th Annual Golf Tournament, originally scheduled for September 29, 2020, was postponed due to severe weather. The tournament will now be held at Chamber member Henderson Country Club, 300 Country Club Drive in Henderson, on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

If you have not yet registered and would like to play, there is still room for a few teams.

Both the Chamber and the Henderson Country Club are committed to offering a safe and enjoyable play environment. Thus, there will be a morning and an afternoon round so that a one golfer per golf cart policy may be adhered to during the tournament. There will be eight teams playing in the morning and eight teams playing in the afternoon. Masks and social distancing will be practiced.

Registration for the morning round will begin at 8 a.m. with a boxed lunch provided (at the conclusion of the round completion). Tee time for the morning round will be at 8:30 a.m. Two teams of four players will begin on the first and tenth holes. Twelve (12) minutes later, at 8:42 a.m., a second group will begin on the first and tenth holes, continuing every 12 minutes until all morning teams have begun.

A boxed lunch will be provided for those playing in the afternoon round upon their arrival. The afternoon round will begin at 1:30 p.m., following the same start instructions as the morning round – two teams of four players will begin on the first and tenth holes, four players will begin off the front, and four players will begin off the back. Twelve (12) minutes later, the second group will begin with other groups following the same procedure.

Corporate sponsorships of $450 offer a hole sponsorship and a four-man team. Hole sponsors are $100, and individual players pay $100 to play. All players receive 18 holes of golf w/cart, boxed lunch and concessions. Mulligans and tee busters will be $10 per player.

There will be contests for a 50/50 raffle, closest to the pin challenge, longest drive and hole-in-one shootout. Prizes and participant goodie bags are being provided by local Chamber members.

Volunteers are needed throughout the morning and afternoon of October 6, beginning at 8 a.m., to assist with registration and driving snack/beverage carts. Anyone who is available to volunteer from 8 a.m. until noon and/or 1 until 4:30 p.m. for an hour or two will be appreciated.

Come enjoy the afternoon with golfers and other volunteers for this, the Chamber’ seventh annual golf event.

Leadership Granville Class Holds Outdoor Graduation Program

The Leadership Granville Class of 2019-2020 graduation, originally scheduled for early April, was postponed due to COVID-19.  The Leadership Granville Steering Committee planned an outdoor graduation for Monday, August 10, 2020, at Granville
Athletic Park’s shelter.

During a more informal program than in past years, the graduates shared their most impressive sessions, as well as ideas for future Leadership Granville classes. Steering Committee Chair, Tiana Royster/Union Bank and Cecilia Wheeler/Chamber President/VGCC, presented the graduation plaques to nine of the twelve graduates who were able to attend.

Following the plaque presentation, graduates picked up a bag of snacks and bottled water provided by Morrirson’s, Rick Childs/Granville Health System.

Work Continues on Granville Chamber’s 2020-21 ‘Granville Today’ Publication

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s “GRANVILLE TODAY” has been published over the past 12 years as a project of the Granville County Chamber of Commerce. It includes feature articles written about all areas of the county. 

“GRANVILLE TODAY” is a quality of life publication, which includes the Chamber’s membership directory alphabetically and categorically. 

It is a resource for all citizens and visitors and is included in relocation packets, recruitment information, displayed in businesses, industries and professional offices and is available at community events, public forums and trade shows. It is also available at the Chamber’s two office locations.  

A Chamber Committee met months ago, prior to COVID-19, to discuss and submit feature articles to be included in our 2020 – 2021 “GRANVILLE TODAY” edition. Advertising sales are just beginning. Representatives with The Daily Dispatch will appropriately identify themselves as the partner with the Granville County Chamber of Commerce when approaching Chamber members for advertising interest or story contributions. 

“GRANVILLE TODAY” is the only publication endorsed by the Granville County Chamber of Commerce. Please feel free to contact either of the Chamber’s offices with questions.

Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Granville Class of 2020-21 Canceled

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Granville Steering Committee and Executive Committee have made the decision to cancel the Leadership Granville Class of 2020 – 2021. The decision was made based on the potential impact of COVID-19 on the upcoming class, which was scheduled to begin in early September and run through the end of March 2021.

Currently, Chamber businesses and industry members are unable to allow visitors to tour their facilities. Also, Steering Committee members are limited in the amount of “outside of their workplace” interaction they are able to have.  

A virtual class option was discussed; however, it was unanimous that this was not ideal as networking face-to-face with other class members, and visiting the community entities is extremely important.

Granville Chamber Seeking Donated Items for New Teacher Welcome Bags

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 recognition and welcome for new teachers to the county will be a gift bag filled with donations from Chamber members.

The 100 gift bags will be distributed to Chamber member school systems Falls Lake Academy, Granville County Public Schools and Oxford Preparatory School. Large gift bags are being provided by Granville Health System.

Chamber members are encouraged to provide gift bag donation items by Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Please call or email to request staff to pick up items, or items may be delivered at either Chamber office location – 124 Hillsboro St., Oxford, (919) 693-6125, wanda@granville-chamber.com or 1598 NC Hwy 56, between Butner and Creedmoor, (919) 528-4994, tawheeler@granville-chamber.com.

Chamber staff will prepare the gift bags with the many goodies members will donate. Donor businesses will be recognized on a sheet included in the gift bags.

In past years, members have donated items such as business swag, pens, pencils, note pads, coupons, gift cards, key chains, rulers, tape measures, hand sanitizer, health and beauty products, candy/microwave popcorn/small bag of coffee/small snack bag of crackers or chips with a business card attached.

Granville’s new teachers are always very appreciative of these efforts!

Granville Chamber of Commerce Warns of Gift Card Scam

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce has been made aware that scam emails that appear to be from Chamber representatives are being sent to community members. These emails request that the recipient purchase gift cards for a specified agency, take pictures of the gift card’s PIN and send the pictures back to the sender, which appears to be the Chamber.

This is a very typical cyber phishing attempt and these emails are not being sent from the Chamber or any Chamber representative.

The Chamber asks that this be a reminder to us all to be wary of anyone (including friends) who seem to be asking for gift cards, account codes or prepaid cards for any purpose.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce apologizes for this scam email and any inconvenience it may have caused.

Granville Co. Chamber Cancels ‘Cluck ‘N Shuck’ Event

In celebration of 78 years in operation, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors announces the Annual Banquet will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., at Vance-Granville Community College’s Civic Center/Main Campus.

Banquet sponsors are BB&T, CertainTeed, LLC, Duke Energy, Granville Health System, Hicks and Wrenn LLP, Vanness Chevrolet and The School of Graphic Arts.

Twenty years following “the devastation of Columbine,” Kacey Johnson shares her inspiring story with audiences across the U.S., as a speaker and an author. Her newly-released book, “Over My Shoulder” coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Columbine shooting. Johnson says it took her nearly that long to come to terms with what happened to her that day and to finally be able to reclaim her life.

The evening will once again include the presentation of the Chamber’s most prestigious award, the John Penn Citizen of the Year Award, recognizing outstanding community service.

A buffet dinner will be prepared and served by Chamber member Simply Delicious Catering of Creedmoor.

Tickets are $40 each. Corporate tables of 8, with reserved seating, are available for $300. Corporate tables of 10, reserved seating, are available for $380. Tickets/reservations are REQUIRED prior to the event. Invitations have been sent via email this year, rather than via the postal service.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Recognition Committee announces that the committee is accepting nominations for the 2020 John Penn Citizen of the Year Award.  This prestigious award, named for Granville County’s signer of the Declaration of Independence, is presented at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Banquet.

The 2020 event will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College.
