— From Henderson Police Chief Marcus Barrow
Friday night at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers with the Henderson Police Department observed a gray Ford Fusion traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Springwood Apartments.
An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to stop, resulting in a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, the officer observed the driver discard an item from the vehicle. The pursuing officer alerted assisting units to the location, where officers later recovered the discarded item, identified as a firearm.
The pursuit ended when the driver struck a utility pole in the area of Parker Lane. The driver then fled from the vehicle on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the individual without further incident.
The driver was identified as a 15-year-old juvenile. Appropriate charges have been sought through the juvenile justice system.
