H-V Chamber of Commerce Seeking Nominees for Citizen of the Year

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking nominations for the 2018 Citizen of the Year.

This annual award honors an individual who has made a significant contribution and demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of Henderson and Vance County. In order to be considered for this award, the nominee must be a resident of the Henderson-Vance County community, should be someone who enjoys a reputation for continuous community service in areas such as civic involvement, quality of life improvements, supportive of business and economic development and humanitarian issues. This contribution must be outside the realm of the individual’s occupation.

Citizens and Chamber members are encouraged to nominate persons they feel are deserving of this recognition. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber and should be submitted in writing to the Chamber office by Friday, December 28. The award will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Banquet on January 31st at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center.

Reminder: H-V Chamber’s Annual Reverse Raffle This Saturday!

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Henderson Police Department (HPD) and the Vance County Sheriff ’s Department, are partnering again to host the third annual reverse raffle. Presenting Sponsor is Maria Parham Health.

This annual event benefits a program serving local underprivileged children called “Shop With a Cop” along with the Chamber of Commerce and its efforts to help local business. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 10 and will be held at Henderson Country Club beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and include dinner for two, a chance at the $5,000 grand prize and a dance at the completion of the raffle. Throughout the evening, guests will be given opportunities to bid on various silent auction items as well as two reserved tickets which will be auctioned toward the end of the ticket drawing. Three reserved tickets will also be raffled during the course of the evening.

The “Shop With a Cop” activity will take place in December at which time members of the HPD and Sheriff ’s Department will take local underprivileged children shopping with local retailers for Christmas. A certain dollar amount of the proceeds raised will be set aside for each participating child. There has been a great turnout for the past two years and we are expecting no less this year. “This fundraiser allows us to do a lot of good for the local community with the proceeds and the HPD and Sheriff ’s office are always anxious to do what we can to help local children”, said Police Chief Marcus Barrow.

H-V Chamber to Host ’15 Under 40′ Reception for Emerging Leaders

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce will host a “15 Under 40” reception at the Henderson County Club on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. This reception honors Vance County’s recently nominated emerging leaders age 40 or younger.

Recipients include Nathan Baskerville, Bert Beard, Joel Beckham, Kristen Boyd, Amanda Walker Ellis, Trevei Foreman, Cara Boyd Gill, Turner Pride, Carice Sanchez, Eric Sanchez, Tremanisha Taylor, Josh Towne, Kendrick Vann, Jessica West and Daniel White.

Tickets are $15 per person and include hors-d’oeuvres and beverages. There will be a cash bar.

H-V Chamber of Commerce Announces Upcoming Business After Hours

Join the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce for a Business After Hours event at Concordia Care Health and Rehabilitation (formerly Guardian Care), 280 Beckford Drive, Henderson. The event will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 5:15 – 7 p.m.

Last ‘Meet Me in the Street’ for 2018 Only One Week Away!

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce, along with Presenting Sponsor NC Towing & Recovery, will host the last of this year’s “Meet Me in the Street” free community concerts on Thursday, November 1, 2018. This is the postponed date from the originally scheduled September 27 event.

The third and final concert of the season will feature “Liquid Pleasure.” After more than two decades of bringing audiences to their feet, this band has become a multi-cultural icon. Veteran member Melvin Farrington says “We love being in touch with people like us, who love a variety of good music, and appreciate hearing it performed live.” Liquid Pleasure presents a mix of oldies, beach music and disco.

In addition to the live music and dancing, the kids can enjoy a section all their own sponsored by Maria Parham Health.

Maria Parham Health presents a Reverse Raffle with Silent Auction and Dance on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the Henderson Country Club. Semi-formal attire is suggested.

Tickets are $125 and include dinner for two, dancing and a chance for a $5,000 grand prize.

Various silent auctions will be held including two reserved tickets. Raffle tickets will be sold for three reserved tickets.

Money raised benefits the local Shop With a Cop program and the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to help local businesses.

H-V Chamber & Dept. of Social Services to Host Work Force Job & Resource Fair

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Vance County Department of Social Services to hold a Work First Job & Resource Fair on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. The job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Civic Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus in Henderson.

The event is open to the public and participants are asked to come dressed for success.

Participating businesses include Ameristaff, City of Henderson, Effex Management Solutions, Go2Staffing, Kittrell Job Corps, Manpower, NC Works Center, Qualified Staffing, Rebuild Communities, Smart Start and Vance-Granville Community College.

“Meet Me in the Street” POSTPONED; Rain Date Set for Nov. 1

Due to impending inclement weather on Thursday, September 27 the last “Meet Me in the Street” concert for 2018 is postponed until Thursday, November 1.

The concert is free to the public and will be held at the same location – the corner of North Garnett and Breckenridge Streets in downtown Henderson from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
