TownTalk: GRACE Ministries Plans A Day Of Worship And Fellowship

Jamie Elliott is looking forward to being able to gather outside Saturday afternoon to share some fun activities with his congregation and the larger community.

Elliott told John C. Rose on Wednesday’s Town Talk that he plans to continue the “Day of Church And Community Fellowship every third Saturday of the month at the Grace Ministries Burr Street location.

“We’re trying to have local churches and the community come together,” Elliott said, to “be involved and see what’s going on” with church programs and out in the community.

The day will begin with breakfast and a women’s ministry, followed by a quick lunch and then a children’s ministry program from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The day’s activities conclude with supper and a live music concert. Bring a lawn chair, Elliott said, to be able to sit back and enjoy the music.

Folks are wanting to get back outside and enjoy each other’s company, he said. The last two years of COVID-19 restrictions have eased recently, which makes events like this a bit safer to have.

All are welcome, Elliott said. He’s just hoping for a good turnout for an event that he said he invites the community to come out and be a part of the fellowship and worship opportunity.

TownTalk: Grace Ministries Prepares 2000 Meals for Thanksgiving

G.R.A.C.E. Ministries is partnering with several churches in Vance and Granville counties to distribute a couple of thousand plates of food Saturday, Nov. 20. Jamie Elliott, one of the founders of G.R.A.C.E. Ministries, said he welcomes the community to come join in, whether you’re interested in helping prepare the food or whether you want to come and pick up plates for you and your neighbors.

Elliott spoke with John C. Rose on Monday’s Town Talk and he said the food has been purchased, but added that monetary donations surely would help replenish the coffers – checks written to G.R.A.C.E. Ministries may be mailed to P.O. Box 316, Henderson, NC 27536.

In addition to eat-in and take out plates at the G.R.A.C.E. Ministries location at 961 Burr St., Elliott said West End Baptist, Island Creek Baptist and West Oxford Baptist churches all will be distributing plates on Saturday as well. West End will be set up at Henderson Family Dentistry, 560 Dabney Dr., Island Creek will be distributing food at its location, 950 Stagecoach Rd. and West Oxford will be giving out plates from their location, 627 Hillsboro St., Oxford.

Plates should be ready for pickup around lunchtime, but volunteers should plan to arrive by about 8:30 a.m. “Those cooking will be on site about 3 a.m.,” Elliott said. “Grab some friends and come on out,” he said. “We’ll have a good time (while) serving the Lord.”

There will be little time for relaxing after the Saturday food event, Elliott said, because as soon as they wrap up the pre-Thanksgiving meal, “we’ll put all our attentions on the toy drive” for Christmas.

New or very gently used toys will be collected in advance of the Dec. 18 program at G.R.A.C.E. Ministries. Elliott said he sincerely hopes that, this year, children can return to the church, hear a Christmas story and receive a gift. Visit graceofhenderson.org to learn more about the upcoming events.

G.R.A.C.E. Ministries works in the four-county area to reach those struggling with addiction. Weekly recovery meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at 961 Burr St., Elliott said. Resources are available to help those in need.

Contact Elliott at 252.204.3617 or Bobby West at 252.432.7124 to find out ways to help with these holiday events.

Town Talk 11/23/20: Grace Ministries Announces Toy Drive, Free After-School Child Care

100.1 FM ~ 1450 AM ~ WIZS, Your Community Voice ~ Click to LISTEN LOCAL

Jamie Elliott, founder of GRACE Ministries of Henderson, appeared on WIZS Town Talk Monday at 11 a.m.

After-School Program

Elliott announced that GRACE Ministries will offer a free-of-charge, Christ-centered after-school program for children in grades 1-5 beginning January 11, 2021. After-school care will be offered at the group’s 961 Burr Street facility in Henderson on Mondays from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

With 20 spots already filled, space is available for approximately 20 more children. According to Elliott, masks will be worn at all times, and children will be divided into smaller groups in separate classrooms to follow social distancing recommendations during the COVID pandemic.

“We are offering this to the youth in our community at no charge,” said Elliott. “If someone wants to give donations to the after school program, then that will be accepted. We want to do something to give back to the youth in our community.”

Christmas Toy Drive

While COVID has altered GRACE Ministries’ annual toy drive and its usual drop off locations, Elliott said new and gently-used toys are being collected at participating Henderson Dollar General locations or by contacting Elliott directly at (252) 204-3617.

A specific date and more details regarding the toy distribution event will be announced closer to Christmas.

Tuesday Night Addiction Ministry

GRACE Ministries holds ongoing, weekly addiction recovery meetings on Tuesday evenings starting at 7 p.m. at the Burr Street location.

Participants are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing; all are welcome.

While COVID concerns have reduced the in-person numbers, Elliott said meetings are still averaging 20-25 people a week. If meetings become too crowded to follow COVID guidelines, a parking lot radio service can be made available.

“We try to give something different every week whether it be a devotion out of the bible or scripture to let people know there is hope with drugs and alcohol,” said Elliott. “That hope is through Jesus Christ.”

Town Talk 12/12/19: Grace Ministries Accepting Toy Donations; Distribution Dec. 21

THIS STORY IS PRESENTED IN PART BY DRAKE DENTISTRY

Jamie Elliott, founder of Grace Ministries in Henderson, appeared on WIZS Town Talk Thursday at 11 a.m.

With the recent completion of a successful Thanksgiving event, where the ministry was able to feed approximately 5,000 people in the community, the organization now turns its attention to Christmas.

On Saturday, December 21 at 10 a.m., Grace Ministries will hold its Third Annual Toy Drive for Children at 961 Burr Street in Henderson.

According to Elliott, families in attendance will be shown a video with the story of Jesus’ birth and then will have a time of prayer. Afterward, toys will be distributed to children. Elliott said children must be in attendance to receive the toys.

Elliott thanked local businesses, such as Roses and Dollar General, for assisting with toy donations and welcomed any interested organizations or churches to volunteer or donate as well.

In addition to allowing the ministry to use the parking lot for toy collection, Elliott said the Roses location on Dabney Drive and Norlina Road, as well as local Dollar General locations, have set up boxes inside the store for customer donations.

To further support the cause, the Dollar General in Kittrell – off of US-1 – will be holding a bake sale this Saturday, December 14 with proceeds going directly to the toy donation.

Monetary donations and/or toy donations are needed for both boys and girls from toddler age up to 13 years old. Donations can be brought to a participating store or may be brought in-person to Grace Ministries (961 Burr St.) Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Elliott, who openly admits his past addiction to drugs and alcohol, said that giving back to the community in this way is a healing process and allows him “to share the hope of God’s promise, his son Jesus Christ” with the community.

In addition to community events, the ministry has ongoing, twice-weekly addiction recovery meetings.

Those struggling with addiction, or those who wish to help loved ones struggling, are encouraged to attend Grace Ministries’ 12-Step meetings on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to attend this addiction recovery process based on biblical passages. Elliott assured listeners that no one who seeks help is judged, and all discussions are kept confidential.

Town Talk 11/06/19: Grace Ministries Seeks to Feed 6,000 for Thanksgiving

100.1 FM / 1450 AM WIZS; Local News broadcasts M-F 8am, 12pm, 5pm

Jamie Elliott, founder of Grace Ministries in Henderson, was on Wednesday’s segment of WIZS’ Town Talk program to discuss the organization’s 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Drive.

Elliott, who described himself as a recovering addict, began Grace Ministries as a way to reach those in Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties who struggle with addiction.

“God has brought me so far in my life that I want to share with our community and let everybody know that there is hope through addiction; that hope is Jesus,” Elliott said. “If I can use my life or share anything about my life, I’m happy to do that if it will save one person out there.”

One way Elliott said he gives back to the community is through the annual free Thanksgiving meal which will be served this year at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 at 961 Burr Street in Henderson.

The “Meal and a Prayer” event will feed approximately 6,000 people, according to Elliott, and community donations of traditional Thanksgiving meal items are greatly needed.

“We need 300 turkeys, 300 cakes, 300 gallons of corn and 300 gallons of string beans,” said Elliott. “We need donations and we need volunteers. This huge number is not going to get done by itself and it’s not going to get done by grace alone. We need local churches, local businesses and the community to step out in faith and get involved.”

For more information on how to donate and/or volunteer, please call Bobby West at (252) 432-7124 or Jamie Elliott at (252) 204-3617. For more information on Grace Ministries, visit their website at www.graceofhenderson.org.

Those struggling with addiction or those who wish to help loved ones struggling with addiction are encouraged to attend Grace Ministries’ 12-Step meetings on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7 p.m. at 961 Burr Street.
