Rehab Work Coming for Bridge and Roadway in Granville County

Thanks to two N.C. Department of Transportation contracts, a short bridge located just south of Creedmoor will be getting some much-needed repairs and nearly 36 miles of Granville County roads will be resurfaced.

As early as February 25, contractors from National Bridge Builders will be able to start repairing the Northside Road bridge extending over Ledge Creek. Built in 1956, the bridge is due for upgrades, as its average daily use is expected to increase by nearly 100 percent by 2039.

The contract was awarded for just over $1 million and crews will have until September 15 to complete work and reopen the bridge for traffic.

The posted off-site detour will utilize Cash Road, South Durham Avenue, West Hillsboro Street and South Elm Street.

In a separate project, several roads in the county will see surface improvements. They include portions of N.C. 50 and N.C. 56, as well as Rock Springs Church Road between Bruce Garner Road and the Wake County line.

This $4.4 million contract was awarded to Carolina Sunrock of Raleigh. The contractor can begin the roadway resurfacing as early as June 1 and must be finished by June 30, 2020.

These projects are two of 14 highway and bridge projects recently awarded by the Department. As required by state law, the contracts went to the lowest qualified bidder. They are worth $144.4 million.

The Granville County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Stew Sale to raise funds for Relay For Life on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost is $7 per quart. Pick up locations include:

Sometime between Sunday, December 16 and Wednesday, December 19, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon the private property of a business located off NC Highway 56 East, Creedmoor, NC and criminally vandalized gas tanks of two U-Haul trucks.

Sometime between Wednesday, December 12 and Thursday, December 13, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon private property located off Brassfield Road, Creedmoor, NC and criminally removed a Ruger Mini 14 ranch .223 caliber gun with walnut stock and a Vortex Viper scope mounted on same.

Sometime between Saturday, December 8 and Friday, December 28, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon private property located off Dove Road, Creedmoor, NC and criminally removed a .25 caliber Royal gun silver in color.

Sometime between Sunday, December 23 and Monday, December 24, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon State-owned property off Will Suitt Road and Highway 15 South and criminally removed two rims and two tires from a mechanically disabled 1994 Mazda B-Series pick-up truck, white in color.

Sometime between Sunday, December 30 and Monday, December 31, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon private property off Will Suitt Road, Franklinton, NC and criminally removed a 33000 PSI Simpson pressure washer with a Kohler motor.

Creedmoor Police to Host ‘National Night Out Against Crime’ at South Granville High

“National Night Out” (NNO) is a crime/drug prevention annual event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

NNO is held nationwide with thousands of participating communities joining forces to raise the awareness of crime and drug prevention. This event is intended not only to educate citizens on drug and crime awareness but also to generate support for and assistance in anti-crime efforts. Strengthening police/community relations sends a direct message to criminals letting them know that citizens, as well as communities, are organized and fighting back!

Creedmoor’s National Night Out Celebration 
Every year, the Creedmoor Police Department hosts this community event at South Granville High School located on NC-Highway 56 on the first Tuesday of August from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Residents across the county are encouraged to turn off the television, leave troubles behind, and come out to spend a fun-filled evening with their fellow neighbors, family, and police!

Activities include:

‘National Day of Play’ to Offer Fun for the Whole Family

The Creedmoor Gymnasium and B.C. Roberts Ballfield, 108 Wilton Avenue (NC-56) in Creedmoor will be the site of the “National Day of Play” on Friday, August 3, 2018, from 4 – 9 p.m.

This event will offer fun for the whole family with a live DJ, games, magic shows, stilt walkers and face painting.

Free hot dogs, Sno Balls, chips, cotton candy and beverages will also be available.

A prize wheel and a Hungry, Hungry Human Competition will be sponsored by SKY ZONE of Durham.

 

 

Granville Co. Schools Superintendent to Welcome Early College Students

Burglary/Vandalism/Larceny on Gooch’s Mill Rd and NC Hwy 56

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon the private property of a residence located off Gooch’s Mill Road, Oxford, NC and criminally removed a Down to Earth utility trailer, black in color, from the yard. Also, a Simplicity Zero Turn lawn mower, red in color, and a Briggs and Stratton pressure washer, red and black in color, that were loaded onto the trailer were taken.

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon the private property of a residence located off NC Highway 56, Creedmoor, NC and forced entry of the residence, which caused criminal property damage, and unlawfully removed one 9mm handgun, newborn baby clothing, two gray lock boxes, numerous pieces of gold jewelry, medications and $170.00 in cash.
