A number of high school girls’ and boys’ basketball programs in the four-county area have made the playoffs. Schools from Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin are showing up in brackets from 1A to 6A. Games are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday this week. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced the playoff brackets Saturday. WIZS’s Scout Hughes and Doc Ayscue reviewed the brackets on Monday’s SportsTalk.
Locally, the Vance Charter School boys’ team earned the #1 seed in the 1A bracket. The Knights finished with a 19-2 regular season record. They’ll play Thursday against the winner of Tuesday’s contest between the 16-seed Bear Grass Charter and 17-seed Cape Hatteras.
The Vance County High School Lady Vipers have a first-round bye in the 6A bracket. They’ll face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Western Harnett and Lee County. Vipers Head Coach Sheila Gill was named Coach of the Year in the Northern Six (6A/7A) conference.
