A Vance County woman faces two separate counts of cyberstalking from complainants who have stated that the individual used social media to make and spread false statements about them.
Hope A. Crabtree, 39, is scheduled to appear in Vance County District Court for both cases Oct. 29, 2026 at 9 a.m., according to court documents.
On Oct. 4, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Crabtree, and misdemeanor cyberstalking is listed as the offense. The complainant was listed as Chiquieta Perry.
Perry is the Vance County manager.
According to court documents, Crabtree “unlawfully and willfully did knowingly permit an electronic communication device, computer/social media, under the defendant’s control to be used for a purpose prohibited by G.S. 14-196.3, Makes false statements for the purpose of abusing, annoying, embarrassing, and harassing through electronic communication. The behavior has caused severe emotional distress and damaged victim’s reputation.”
Perry told WIZS News on Oct. 7 that the matter “has nothing to do with (Crabtree) and the County.” Perry said, “It has nothing to do with Vance County Government.”
In speaking to WIZS, Perry separated herself as a person from her job as manager and indicated Crabtree had mischaracterized her on social media since May of 2026, posting about “salary increases, she hires her friends, whole bankruptcy thing … I have a problem with that,” Perry said.
Perry said, “Agree or disagree with the decisions, request as many public records as you want. We have nothing to hide, but when it gets personal, I have a problem with that.”
She said, “I was just tired of it. The magistrate said (the case) meets the elements, and I said ‘proceed.’”
Crabtree posted a $500 secured bond and was released.
In addition, a criminal summons was issued on Oct. 7 for an incident that happened on May 30, 2026. The complainant on the summons was listed as Mollie Brooks, of Roxboro, NC, who stated that the defendant made comments on Facebook “damaging her character, texted her colleagues in the animal welfare and employment about animal abuse.”
WIZS News reached Crabtree for comment earlier Monday but she declined to make a statement for now.
