From Vance County Sheriff Curtis Brame:
“On June 8, 2026, at approximately 10am, Vance County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a welfare check on two individuals in the Gillside community that had not arrived for work. Deputies discovered a male and female inside the residence deceased. Both appeared to have suffered from gunshot wounds.
“At this time, the location and the names of both individuals are being withheld pending notification of their families. The Vance County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is actively investigating the case. We do not believe the citizens of Vance County should be alarmed as this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
“Any information that would lead the Vance County investigators to provide closure would be greatly appreciated.
