After a weekend of freezing temps and precipitation, the city of Henderson is digging and scraping out of what turned out to be a mostly ice event.
And nobody’s complaining about NOT getting the full brunt of that massive storm that affected states from New Mexico to Maine. The listening area largely escaped with very limited, if any, interruption in utility services.
Duke Energy had crews stationed in Raleigh ready to deploy to areas that needed help to restore power disrupted by trees falling on power lines because of ice accumulation.
Duke Energy customers in the four-county area seem to have fared pretty well in the fallout from the weekend ice and snow storm.
According to power company officials, as of 4:30 p.m. Monday, all customers in Vance, Granville and Warren counties have power; only six customers in Franklin County remain without power as of Tuesday afternoon.
Since the outages were first reported, as a result of the icy conditions, utility crews restored 46 outages in Vance County, 3 in Granville County, 2 in Warren County and 246 in Franklin County.
Monday’s sunshine went a long way to melt the snow and ice that had blanketed roads, sidewalks and driveways, but nighttime temperatures dipping into the single digits Monday night into Tuesday still pose potential problems for motorists – and water pipes – by morning.
You can do a couple of things to help protect your home’s pipes from freezing, including opening cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate and letting faucets drip slightly to keep water moving through pipes.
It’s a good idea to know where your home’s water shutoff valve is, just in case you do experience a burst pipe. And keep your thermostat set to at least 55 degrees, even if you’re not at home.
