TownTalk: Vance Co. Community Foundation Awards More Than 12K To Local Organizations

The Vance County Community Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has awarded $12,050 in grants to organizations supporting the local community.

The board of advisors granted:

  • $2,000 to ACTS of Vance County, Inc. for food purchases for pantry
  • $1,000 to Community Partners of Hope, Inc. for Henderson Men’s Shelter expansion
  • $1,550 to Embassy Cultural Center Foundation, Inc. (doing business as McGregor Hall) for general operating support
  • $1,500 to Franklin-Granville-Vance Smart Start, Inc. for Adolescent Parenting Program
  • $1,000 to HubZone Technology Initiative for general operating support
  • $1,000 to Kearah’s Place for transitional housing program
  • $1,000 to North Carolina Symphony for ensembles in the schools for Vance County students
  • $1,000 to Spoken Existence Ministries for self-sustaining community garden beautification
  • $1,000 to Vance County Middle School (VCMS) Healthful Living for after-school program
  • $1,000 to Vision’s Educational Learning & Tutoring Services for general operating support

“We’re honored to support these organizations doing great wok in our community and grateful to our supporters who make this possible,” said Wendy Meyer-Goodwin, advisory board president of the Vance County Community Foundation.

Funds for 2024 grants came from VCCF’s community grantmaking fund, the Bobby R. and Griselle G. Woodward Endowment Fund, and the Edna Freeman Murray and Ralph Murray Charitable Fund. Each year, VCCF’s local volunteer advisory board uses dollars from its endowment funds to make grants to eligible local organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches.

VCCF advisory board members live and work in Vance County, positioning them to strategically leverage resources to meet local needs and access opportunities.

Local Community Foundation Grant Cycle Open

Local non-profit organizations can apply for grant funding from the Vance County Community Foundation through May 4, 2021.

Funds are available for nonprofit organizations serving the local community in Vance County and will be awarded from the community grantmaking fund. Grants typically range from $500 to $1,000, according to information from the foundation.

The application period opened in early April. Visit this page for information about applying. Funds are awarded by the board of advisors of the Vance County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.

Grants are not available for regranting purposes, capital campaigns, capital improvements, out-of-state travel or for individuals.

“We are honored to offer grants to the wonderful non-profits serving our local community,” said Wendy Meyer-Goodwin, board president. “We know our community is stronger because of these organizations and we’re grateful to support them.”

Funds are available for nonprofit organizations that serve general community needs in Vance County. Grants will be awarded from the community grantmaking fund.

Frances Abbot Burton Powers Fund Accepting Grant Applications

The Frances Abbot Burton Powers Fund for support of the Town of Henderson will be accepting grant applications for its 2018 grants cycle, according to Preston Powers.

The endowment will make grant funds available for government entities and nonprofit organizations that benefit the Town of Henderson and have a physical location in Henderson. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $15,000.

A board of advisors will determine grant awards. Applications are available online at nccommunityfoundation.org/vance and will be accepted June 15 – July 13. All organizations will be notified by mid-August.

Vance County Community Foundation Awards More than $7,000 in Local Grants

The board of advisors of the Vance County Community Foundation announces $7,100 in local awards from its community grantmaking fund, according to Fagan Goodwin, board president.

This year the board will grant:

  • $1,300 to the American Heart Association for the CPR in Schools: Training the Next Generation of Lifesavers program
  • $1,000 to the Autism Society of North Carolina for 2018 Camp Royall program scholarships for Vance County children with autism
  • $1,000 to the Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines for the Vance County Girl Scout Leadership Experience program
  • $1,800 to the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission for downtown retail staging
  • $1,000 to Prevent Blindness North Carolina for the Star Pupils Vance County program
  • $1,000 to the Triangle Literacy Council for the Constructing Pathways to Prosperity program

The board of advisers of the Vance County Community Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for projects funded from its community grantmaking fund, according to Fagan Goodwin, board president.
