The Henderson Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Stoney Leon Johnson, 36, of Henderson in reference to the homicide of Youself Roseboro. A first-degree murder warrant has been obtained for Stoney Johnson.
Johnson lived with Roseboro at the residence of 649 Vance Street, Henderson. When officers arrived at the residence on September 23, 2019, they found Roseboro deceased from a gunshot wound.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. this morning, September 23, 2019, officers of the Henderson Police Department went to 649 Vance Street to check on the occupant.
When officers arrived, they found the tenant, Youself Roseboro (age 48), deceased.
At this time, we are investigating the death of Mr. Roseboro and we are asking for anyone with information to come forth. On September 3, 2019, at 11:46 a.m., officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to ACTS, 305 South Chestnut Street, in reference to a breaking and entering to the business. Forced entry was made into the business and several items were taken. With the assistance from employees on scene and video footage, the suspect was identified.
On September 4, 2019, at 8 p.m., officers with the Henderson Police Department reported to 825 Nicholas Street locating Quincey Fuller. Mr. Fuller was taken into custody and most of the items taken previously were recovered.
Mr. Fuller was charged with B&E, larceny after B&E, possession of stolen property and injury to real property. Mr. Fuller received a $40,000 secured bond and was secured at the Vance County Jail.

As stated in previous press releases, the Henderson Police Department is actively seeking information in both incidences. The officer’s incident is primarily being investigated by the SBI.
The homicide of Adonious Hawkins Jr. is a principal investigation for our agency and other assisting agencies.

Vehicle breaking and enterings are a trend that law enforcement all over is seeing rise. Over the past few weeks, officers of the Henderson Police Department have deployed covert equipment to curtail the rise in motor vehicle breaking and enterings in our area.
During the first night of deployment, March 9, 2019, we were able to apprehend Kelcey Roswell Thorpe (48), of 844 Park Avenue, after he entered a vehicle in the Roanoke Avenue area. Due to Thorpe’s qualifying history, he was also charged as a Habitual Felon. He received a $40,000 secure bond.
The use of this equipment has allowed us “real-time” notification of an incident, the ability to utilize it in an array of situations and post-event identification through the use of multiple mediums.
Even though we continue our deployment methods, we strongly urge our citizens to lock their vehicles and remove or lock away items that are of interest to thieves.

Saturday morning, Dec. 22 at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to an alarm at 2303 Oxford Rd. When they arrived, they found that someone had broken into the business.
After a K-9 track and canvass of the area, a suspect vehicle description was developed. The vehicle was discovered at an area motel and the suspect, Dwayne Marcelle Chavis of Kittrell, was located and arrested. Chavis was in possession of stolen items.
Dwayne Chavis, 45 years old, was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. He is being held at the Vance County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond and his court date is set for Jan. 14, 2019.
We are appreciative of the diligence of the business for the precautions they took, and the assistance of the public that led to the arrest of the perpetrator.

The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Robert J. Higdon, Jr., announced that today, HYKEEM HENDERSON, 27, of Henderson, North Carolina, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III to 42 months imprisonment followed by 3 years of supervised release.
HENDERSON was named in a one-count Indictment on December 20, 2017. On May 29, 2018, HENDERSON pled guilty to felon in possession of a firearm.
On June 1, 2017, officers with the Henderson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle due to expired registration. Officers were told by one occupant that he had smoked marijuana prior to the stop. During the search of the vehicle, officers located a firearm along with a holster under the passenger seat. HENDERSON claimed ownership of the firearm. During further investigation, HENDERSON was found to be a convicted felon.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN in 2017 as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.
This case is part of the Take Back North Carolina Initiative of the United States Attorney’s Office. This initiative emphasizes the regional assignment of federal prosecutors to work with law enforcement and District Attorney’s Offices on a sustained basis in those communities to reduce the violent crime rate, drug trafficking, and crimes against law enforcement.
The investigation of this case was conducted by the Henderson Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette handled the prosecution of this case for the government.

On August 30, 2018, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit and Community Action Team, arrested two Franklin County residents: Timmie Lee Richardson and Gerretta Harrison Richardson of 885 Tollie Weldon Road, Henderson, NC on a variety of drug offenses.

This investigation into illegal narcotics trafficking began as a result of citizen complaints alleging that drug activity was occurring at 885 Tollie Weldon Road, Henderson, NC. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit was able to confirm the information provided and began an investigation which led to fourteen (14) felony drug charges against Timmie Lee Richardson and three (3) felony drug charges against Gerretta Harrison Richardson.
In addition to the arrests, a search warrant was executed at 885 Tollie Weldon Road which resulted in the seizure of Cocaine, Marijuana, four (4) firearms, US Currency and two (2) vehicles. The street value of the drugs seized is $11,764.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Branch (ALE), Henderson Police Department and the NC National Guard Counter Drug Task Force.
Sheriff Kent Winstead stated, “Our Drug Unit continues to put an emphasis on making cases that make a difference in our communities. These arrests were the direct result of concerned citizens providing valuable information that we were able to use in our investigation and teamwork among several agencies. We will continue to aggressively investigate and pursue drug activity in our county.”

Timmie Lee Richardson is currently being held in the Franklin County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.

Gerretta Harrison Richardson was placed in the Franklin County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce along with the Henderson Police Department (HPD) and the Vance County Sheriff ’s Department are partnering again to host the third annual reverse raffle.
This annual event benefits a program serving local underprivileged children called “Shop With a Cop” along with the Chamber of Commerce and its efforts to help local business. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 2018, and will be held at Henderson Country Club beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and include dinner for two, a chance at the $5,000 grand prize and a dance at the completion of the raffle. Throughout the evening, guests will be given opportunities to bid on various silent auction items as well as two reserved tickets which will be auctioned toward the end of the ticket drawing. Three reserved tickets will also be raffled during the course of the evening.
The “Shop With a Cop” activity will take place in December at which time members of the HPD and Sheriff ’s Department will take local underprivileged children shopping with local retailers for Christmas. A certain dollar amount of the proceeds raised will be set aside for each participating child. There has been a great turnout for the past two years and we are expecting no less this year. “This fundraiser allows us to do a lot of good for the local community with the proceeds and the HPD and Sheriff ’s office are always anxious to do what we can to help local children”, said Police Chief Marcus Barrow.
There are opportunities for local businesses to donate silent auction items, sponsor the event or help in other ways. Members of the HPD, Vance County Sheriff ’s Department and Chamber staff and board of directors will be making community contacts in the very near future.

The Mona Pants Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit dog rescue group, is donating bullet-proof vests to four K9 Officers – two from the Henderson Police Department and two from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
The lucky recipients of the “vestification” project, started by the Mona Pants Foundation in 2016, include Franklin Co. K9 Officer Ace (Corporal A. Barrett), Franklin Co. K9 Officer Oli (Corporal K. Gunter), Henderson K9 Officer Deli (Sergeant J. Thomas) and Henderson K9 Officer Nero (Officer Machelick).
These bullet-proof and stab-proof vests are in the process of being made and should be ready for the K9 Officers in a few weeks.
