Aycock Rec. Center to Offer Free Classes in Honor of ‘Week of the Young Child’

Rec. Baseball & Softball Opening Ceremony/Picture Day to Honor Local Youth

Henderson Vance Recreation & Parks will hold the 2019 Baseball and Softball Opening Ceremony/Picture Day on Saturday, April 13, 2019, beginning at 10 a.m. This event will be held at the George Watkins Field #3 at the Aycock Recreation Complex, 307 Carey Chapel Rd. in Henderson.

This recognition/celebration will honor youth baseball/softball players, coaches, parents and sponsors. The entire community is invited to come out and support local youth.

Rain date will be Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m.

Aycock Rec. Center to Offer Spring Water Aerobics Classes

The Aycock Recreation Center will offer spring water aerobics classes for both swimmers and non-swimmers alike beginning April 1 and ending June 28, 2019. Classes will not be held April 19 or May 27.

Classes will combine low and high impact exercises with a focus on strength building, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and having fun!

Classes will be offered Monday – Wednesday – Friday from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.; Tuesday – Thursday from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

Cost is $1 for monthly pass members and $2 for non-members.

Registration Deadline for Adult Winter Basketball Extended!

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department announces the return of adult winter basketball for 2019. This league is designed for adults who enjoy the game of basketball. Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights with game times depending on the number of teams that register.

The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, March 8, 2019! $420 entry fee per team.

Each team will be guaranteed at least eight regular season games. A double elimination tournament will follow the end of the regular season.

Space Limited to 15 Participants in Free Arthritis Exercise Program

The Aycock Recreation Center will be the site of an exercise program geared to those suffering from arthritis pain and stiffness. Courtesy of the Arthritis Foundation, this free 8-week program will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 2 – 3 p.m. beginning March 18 and ending May 13, 2019. Classes will not be held on Thursday, April 18.

This program is low-impact and joint-safe and has been proven to decrease pain and stiffness while increasing flexibility and range of motion; suitable for every fitness level.

Space in the class is on a first come, first served basis with a limit of 15 people.

Aycock Rec. Center Announces Spring 2019 Swim Lesson Schedule

The Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department announces its 2019 Spring Swim Lesson schedule.

Lessons will be held at the Aycock Recreation Center’s swimming pool each Saturday from March 2 – April 6, 2019.

Schedule:

  • Preschool (ages 3-5) ~ 10 – 10:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Beginner (ages 5-13) ~ 10:30 – 11 a.m.
  • Intermediate (ages 5-13) ~ 11 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Parent/Tot (6 months – 3 years, parent in the water) ~ 12 – 12:30 p.m.
  • Adult (ages 14+) ~ 12:30 – 1 p.m.

Lesson fee of $30 is due, along with completed registration form, by Thursday, February 28, 2019. Class instructor will be Tanya Edwards.

Registration for H-V Rec. & Parks Youth Baseball & Softball Begins Feb. 2

Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks will hold registration for youth spring baseball and softball February 2 – March 9, 2019.

Baseball is open to ages 4 – 18; playing age is determined as of May 1, 2019.

Softball is open to ages 6 – 16; playing age is determined as of January 1, 2020.

Cost: Vance County Residents – $40; Non Residents – $60

Register at the Aycock Rec. Center during normal business hours.

Upcoming Winter/Spring Events at Aycock Rec. Center

Hip Hop Water Aerobics is a fast-paced cardio workout in the water with low impact on your joints. The classes will be held on Wednesdays beginning February 6, 2019. Aycock Rec Center Offering New Program for Children Ages 1-5

Aycock Recreation Center announces Tot-Time, a new program for children ages 1-5 on Thursdays from 8 to 11 a.m. Children will enjoy equipment and toys that are age appropriate and designed to let toddlers explore and learn new skills.

Tot-Time is held in an unstructured, open gym setting and parents must supervise at all times.

The cost to participate is $1 for members and $2 for non-members. No charge for parents or guardians.
