Aycock Rec. Center Offering Step Aerobics Class

The Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department will offer Step Aerobics in the Aycock Recreation Center’s Multi-Purpose Room on Wednesdays from September 4 – November 20, 2019.

Step Aerobics is a 45-minute high energy fitness class that will be offered from 6:15 to 7 p.m. This class is great for beginners or those looking to get back into the swing of fitness.

Fee: $1 for members, $2 for non-members.

Aycock Rec. Center to Offer Fall Water Aerobics Classes

The Aycock Recreation Center will offer fall water aerobics classes for both swimmers and non-swimmers alike beginning September 3 and ending December 13, 2019. Classes will not be held October 17, 21-25; November 11, 28-29.

Classes will combine low and high impact exercises with a focus on strength building, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and having fun!

Classes will be offered Monday – Wednesday – Friday from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

Cost is $1 for members and $2 for non-members.

City Council Approves $126K Contract for Aycock Rec. Center Gym

In a special called meeting held July 25, Henderson City Council members authorized the award of a $126,172.25 construction contract to Sport Court Carolina, Inc. for the Aycock Recreation Center Gym Floor Replacement Project.

On June 10, 2019, the Council authorized the expenditure of funds for the replacement of the Aycock Recreation Center gym floor as part of the 2020 Fiscal Year budget.

The project includes 12,800 square feet of removal and replacement of gym flooring.

Flooring renovations include adding durable composite material with a wood appearance. The composite will have a 5 mm pad underneath to allow for bounce, with another hardened composite base under the pad.

According to reports, the gym floor will be the darker of the composite tiles shown below, with the center court and lanes consisting of the lighter composite.

The project was first open for bids on July 8, 2019. With no bids being made, the project was re-bid July 18, 2019, and the low bidder was Sport Court with a bid of $126,172.25.

The only other bid was Synergy Building Group at $148,500.

Aycock Rec. Center has announced that they will be closed for renovations beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26 and will reopen on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

The outdoor track will still be available for use.

Facility Upgrades to Close Aycock Rec. Center Through August

The Aycock Recreation Center will be closed beginning Saturday, July 27 and reopening on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

On Friday, July 26, the center will close at 6 p.m.

During this closure, we will be making upgrades to the facility. Patrons may still utilize the outdoor walking track.

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks will offer morning fast-track swim lessons at the Aycock Recreation Center for youth ages 6 months – 13 years old. Lessons will be held on June 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27.

The fee for the series of six lessons is $30. Registration forms and fees are due by Tuesday, June 11.

Register Now for H-V Rec & Parks Youth Summer Camp

Looking for a great place for summer activities for youth ages 5-13? Register for the Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Summer Camp 2019. Camp will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 10 – August 9, 2019, at the Aycock Recreation Center in Henderson.

Lunch will be provided weeks 2-8. Cost is $50 a week per child. Registration is underway; preregistration and pre-payment required.

5-year-old participants must have completed Kindergarten.

H-V Job Readiness Program Offers Youth Summer Employment Opportunities

The Henderson-Vance Job Readiness Program offers Vance County teenagers ages 14-18 job training and possible job opportunities.

All applicants must be enrolled in school and must register for and attend three days of unpaid training on June 17-19, 2019. The training will teach the job skills needed for HVRPD’s summer youth employment opportunities.

Aycock Rec Center Offering Free Arthritis Exercise Class

Aycock Rec Center’s Arthritis Exercise Class is a FREE low-impact, joint-safe program developed for people with arthritis. This class is suitable for every fitness level and has been proven to decrease pain and stiffness while increasing flexibility and range of motion.

Classes will be held at the Aycock Rec Center from 2 until 3 p.m. each Monday and Thursday, May 30 – July 25, 2019. Classes will not be held on July 4 or July 22.

Space in the class is available on a first come, first serve basis with a limit of 15 participants.

H-V Rec & Parks to Offer FREE Summer Swim Class for Children

2019 Annual Water Safety Awareness:  Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department will hold its Annual Water Safety Awareness session on Friday, May 10, 2019,  from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aycock Recreation Center. Safety demonstrations, life jacket fitting and swim lesson level testing will be offered.

Safe Summer Swim: Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department will offer a FREE swim program for children ages 5-13 years old. Classes will be divided into age groups of 5 to 7-year-olds, 8 to 10-year-olds and 11 to 13-year-olds. Classes will meet daily Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17. Classes will be offered from 5:30 – 7 p.m. (30-minute session per class).

Anyone wishing to participate in the summer swim program must be present at the Annual Water Safety Awareness event taking place on Friday, May 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aycock Recreation Center.

A drawing will take place following the event at 7:30 p.m. to pick winners for the free Safe Summer Swim Program (up to 20 participants will be picked for each age group).
