Vance County Sheriff Curtis Brame has asked WIZS to announce:
Please be aware that the Vance County Sheriff’s Office has received more than a dozen calls from concerned citizens questioning whether or not there has been a warrant for arrest issued under their name. The alleged warrant is described as a failure to appear in Federal Court for jury duty. Be advised, THIS IS A SCAM.
The caller is impersonating a local law enforcement officer by providing a name and requesting $900 to be paid immediately in order to freeze a warrant for the arrest issued for the person. They have also spoofed the number for the Vance County Sheriff’s Office. The caller becomes very aggressive while you threaten to contact the Sheriff’s Office. When this happens, please disconnect the call and speak with your local law enforcement agency. DO NOT CARRY OUT ANY OF THE DIRECTIONS PROVIDED BY THE UNKNOWN CALLER. AGAIN THIS IS A SCAM!
Please be advised WE do not call anyone for any reason requesting funds especially taking those funds to a local ATM Machine. If you receive this call, please hang up immediately and speak with someone in person from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office to verify the situation before giving anyone your money.
If you are uncertain, please contact your local Law Enforcement Agency before providing any personal information or requested money to anyone.
