Fire ants can be controlled using fire ant bait. Place the bait around the mound only when fire ants are actively foraging. You can place a potato chip around the mound to see if fire ants are foraging that day. After about an hour, come back and check to see if the fire ants have found the potato chip. If they are on the potato chip, they are active foraging. You can put out your ant bait.
