Vance/Warren Master Gardeners Program 2021

Cooperative Extension is looking for a few good volunteers to join the Vance/Warren Master Gardeners program. Applications are now being accepted for the 16 week training program, which will begin on August 3rd, 2021. The class will meet on Tuesday mornings, and covers all aspects of gardening including fruits, vegetables, weeds, insects, diseases, trees, shrubs, turf, and more. Some classes will meet in person, while others will convene using the Zoom video conferencing platform.

After training, each volunteer intern is required to provide 40 hours of service in various community outreach projects. No green thumb required, and many other skills are needed including public speaking, writing, photography, social media, event management, graphic design, and much more. Recent volunteer projects have included demonstration gardens in both counties, newsletters, gardening workshops and seminars, youth education and more. The training fee is $125.

Learn How To Fly a Drone With 4-H Project

Is your child interested in drones and learning how to fly them? Registration is free and open now for young people between 12-18 years to participate in the 4-H Drone Pilot Program.

Over the course of the two-week program, participants will receive a kit that includes the Parrot Mambo mini-drone, 2 drone batteries, battery charging cord and a tracphone, according to Stephen Misenheimer, Warren County 4-H agent.

Spring 2021 Equine Program Series Warren County Center

Area horse owners are invited to participate in the Spring Equine Program Series at the Warren County Center.

The three-part series begins on Tuesday, Mar. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Shannon Pratt-Phillips, DVM, will discuss proper nutrition and feed resources.

The second program is set for Tuesday, Mar. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Katie Sheets, DVM will discuss parasite management.

The final program is set for April 20, also at 6:30 p.m. Trooper Tare “T” Davis, with the NC Highway Patrol, will discuss trailer safety and DMV regulations.

Warren County Coop Extension has PPE for Farmers and Agriculture

The Warren County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension has PPE supplies available for farmers and agricultural workers.

According to an email received by WIZS News, “Face mask and other PPE, such as hand sanitizer, are available through the Warren County Cooperative Extension for farmers and those in agricultural related fields.

“If you would like to be able to have some of these products, please contact the Warren County Center at (252) 257-3640.”
