Vance Hires Jeremy T. Jones As Assistant County Manager

Vance County will have a new assistant county manager on Oct. 1, 2024. Jeremy T. Jones will join County Manager C. Renee Perry and other county staff, bringing more than 10 years of experience in public service and law enforcement to the job.

“I am honored to step into this new role and continue my commitment to public service,” said Jones. “I look forward  to working with the talented team here at Vance County to enhance the quality of life for all our residents and foster a safe, thriving community.”

As assistant county manager, Jones will provide strategic guidance for the county’s public safety departments, maintenance, solid waste and animal services while also streamlining operations, improving service  delivery and ensuring the county continues to meet the needs of its growing population. Additionally, he will serve as the county’s public information officer

“We are thrilled to have Jeremy join our team,” Perry said in a press statement.

“His extensive background in law enforcement and management will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our county’s services and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Jones’s background in public safety will be a wealth of added knowledge with the many public safety projects that are forthcoming. Jones also has a great deal of experience as a public information officer and has a reputable reputation for interacting with the media.

Jones has been employed with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office since June 2017 as the Administrative  Sergeant but started his career in December 2013 with the Elizabeth City Police Department. Jones holds a Bachelor  of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Elizabeth City State University, a Master of Science degree in  Administration from Central Michigan University and has completed the Administrative Officer’s Management  Program through N.C. State University.

Brodie Road Convenience Site Now Open On Sundays

The Brodie Road waste convenience site will be open on Sundays beginning this Sunday, Sept. 3, a move that county leaders hope will be helpful for residents and also reduce the amount of illegal dumping that occurs in the area.

The site is located at 900 Brodie Rd.and will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays throughout the year, according to Jason Falls, county solid waste director.

“This is a service improvement approved by the Vance County Board of Commissioners to improve access for customers as well as a way to decrease illegal dumping in the area,” Falls said in a press statement. This is the only change planned in operating days/times, he noted. All other convenience center hours of operation remain the same.

‘Swat-A-Litterbug’ Program Simple Way for Public to Help Keep NC Clean

The N.C. Department of Transportation’s “Swat-A-Litterbug” program encourages the public to report people who litter in an effort to help make North Carolina roadways cleaner. The program provides every individual an opportunity to be an active participant in reducing litter on NC roadways.

The public can report those who litter to NCDOT’s Litter Management Section by filling out an online form or calling NCDOT’s Customer Service Office at (877) 368-4968.

Upon receipt of the reported information, NCDOT will mail the registered owner of the vehicle that was reported a formal notification, signed by the N.C. State Highway Patrol, that informs them of the littering offense, the penalties of littering and urges them to help keep North Carolina clean.

Information that is needed to report a “litterbug” includes the date, time, plate number, county, city, street and violation description (cup, napkin, cigarette butt, etc.).

Please do your part to help keep NC, and our local communities, litter-free!

 

City of Henderson/County of Vance to meet tomorrow

There will be a joint meeting between the Henderson City Council and the Vance County Commissioners on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Farm Bureau Room at the Perry Memorial Library, 205 Breckenridge Street, Henderson.  The purpose of this meeting is to hear a presentation from the NC School of Government regarding the Henderson urban redevelopment area.  No action will be taken during this meeting.  The public is welcome to attend.
