Vance County Early College Alums Invited To Come Share In Homecoming Festivities Sept. 22

Attention, all graduates of Vance County Early College High School! You’re invited to come back and enjoy Homecoming festivities later this month, alongside current students and others.

Things “kick off” with a tailgate experience on Friday, Sept. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Vance County High School. It’s a time to mingle with old friends, make some new memories and enjoy some food and drinks.

The fun continues at 7 p.m. at the football field – come cheer the team to victory. The highlight of the evening will take place at halftime when the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.

Aarika Sandlin, VCS chief officer of Communication & Innovative Support, explained that each high school – Vance County High and the Early College High School – crowns its own king and queen for Homecoming. “”It worked great last year, so continuing that excitement” is the goal for this year, she said. Students from all the schools play as Vipers for athletics, she continued.

Her favorite tagline is “In Vance County, we are all Vipers.”

Vance Co. Early College High School Graduates 41 in Drive-Thru Ceremony

Vance County Early College High School celebrated commencement with 41 graduates on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at 6 p.m. The drive-thru ceremony was held at Vance-Granville Community College. 

Though unable to have a traditional graduation, Vance County Schools was elated to be able to recognize the Class of 2020. The ceremony was live-streamed on the school district website and live updates were provided on WIZS 1450 AM/100.1 FM. 

Dr. Anthony Jackson, superintendent of Vance County Schools, and Mr. Travis Taylor, principal of Vance County Early College High School, presented each of the graduates with their diploma. 

Graduates were Ashly Arias, Dawson Ayscue, Evan Beaudet, Angela Bolanos Salazar, Mason Boone, Jasmine Davis, Daniela Decena-Santos, Aryianna Dockery, Virginia Ellis, Adison Evans, Emani’ Foster, Kierra Gray, Cheyenne Guerrant, Matthew Gupton, Viviana Hernandez, Seth Hight, Wesley Hight, Lakaevyn Holden, Tania Hunter, Isaiah Johen, Tre’Quan Johnson, Josiah Jones, Malik Kilgore, Logan Ludenburg, Destiny McBurrough, Kristyn Medlin, Hanna Miller, Chauncy Noel, Brayden Patterson, Jade Puryear, Josie Roberson, Kendall Royster, Jennifer Solomon, Julie Solomon, Jabrial Steed, Jessica Steed, Aure Tejada, Lane Wade, Ahbrionna Williams, Haley Williams and Leslie Zuniga Trejo.

Vance County Schools recognizes seniors using Latin honors as determined by the student’s grade point average. A total of 31 graduating Vance County Early College High School seniors received Latin honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude). 

Seniors Jade Puryear and Josiah Jones delivered pre-recorded speeches to their class. 

In addition to 41 high school diplomas being awarded, 29 students earned an Associate of Arts degree, and an additional 12 students earned transferrable college credit. Combined, the Vance County Early College High School students have been awarded over $5 million in scholarships and grants.

Vance Co. Early College High School Graduates 33 Seniors

Vance County Early College High School awarded high school diplomas to 33 graduating seniors in the Class of 2019 during Commencement Exercises held on the evening of May 23, 2019, in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College near Henderson. 

There were 27 of the high school graduates who also earned an associates degree from Vance-Granville Community College and eight who earned two associate degrees from the community college.

Ethan Roberson was the class valedictorian and Tim Jiang was the class salutatorian. They both delivered addresses that recognized the accomplishments of their distinguished class and included excitement about their futures. 

Principal Travis Taylor led the commencement exercises. The Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard from Vance County High School presented the flags at the beginning of the ceremony. Senior Kamiyah Wiggins sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” 

Serving as graduation marshals were Josiah Jones and Haley Williams, as lead marshals, as well as Aryianna Dockery, Emani Foster, Cheyenne Guerrant, Kristyn Medlin, Josie Roberson, Kendall Royster, Jessica Steed and Leslie Zuniga Trejo.

Early College High School Accepting Applications for Rising Sophomores/Juniors

Vance County Early College High School is now accepting applications for rising 10th and 11th graders for the 2019-2020 school year. The application deadline is Monday, April 1, 2019.

Vance County Early College High School is now accepting applications from students for the 2019-2020 school year.

The deadline for receiving the applications is Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 3 p.m.

Applications are available on the Early College and Vance County Schools websites or they can be picked up from the school, located on the third floor of Building 2 on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson.

Vance County Early College High School is accepting applications for rising sophomores and juniors for the 2018-19 school year.

Applications must be received in the Early College High School office by noon on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

The application is available on the school district’s website at www.vcs.k12.nc.us.

Acceptance notifications will go out to students on July 6, 2018. An orientation session for new students and their parents will be held on July 19, 2018.

Early College High School is located on the third floor of Building 2 on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College near Henderson.

Early College High School Class of 2018 Graduates

A total of 38 members of the Class of 2018 at the Vance County Early College High School received their high school diplomas and most also received at least one college associate degree during their Commencement Exercises held during the evening of May 24.

The commencement was held in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College before an audience of about 900 parents, family members, friends and school staff members.

Principal Debbie Hite offered opening remarks and presided over the ceremony.

Seven of the graduates received both an associate degree in the arts and an associate degree in science from Vance-Granville Community College. An additional 23 of the graduates received just an associate degree in the arts. In total, 30 of the 38 graduates received a college associate degree.

The college associate degrees indicate that they have received credit for completing two years of college-level coursework. They may now use those credits to enter a four-year college or university as a junior.

Top Graduates in Class of 2018 Honored

Vance County Schools hosted the annual “Honoring Academic Success” banquet for the top graduating seniors in the Class of 2018 during the evening of Wednesday, May 16, at McGregor Hall in downtown Henderson.

Approximately 60 Class of 2018 members from AdVance Academy, Early College High, Southern Vance High and Northern Vance High were honored and presented with medallions. They are all among the top 10 percent academically in their senior classes. Their medallions were presented to them by Superintendent Anthony Jackson, Vance County Board of Education Chairwoman Darlynn Oxendine and Vance County Public School Foundation President Archie B. Taylor, Jr.

Over 200 parents, friends, community leaders and school system administrators were in the audience to join in the recognitions for the graduates.

Jordan Thomas, a 2017 graduate of Southern Vance High School and now a student leader at N.C. Central University, was the featured speaker for the evening. Thomas did an amazing job with his keynote address. He talked about his own experiences in completing his first year of college and he urged all of the successful graduates to continue to be leaders, work hard to achieve their goals and to never give up even in the face of adversity.

Those students honored included from AdVance Academy: Timothy Batts, Jr., Alexander Cooper, Quandarious Greene, Samuel Gupton, III, Germon Hawthorne, Shay’Daza Harrison, Nathan Martin, Zi’yon Price, Nicole Dominguez and Aljanea Robinson.

Top graduates honored from Early College High School were Nancy Bonilla, Ke’Moni Champion, Lehman Ford, Victoria Inscoe, Lillian Kanouff and Seth Moody.

The top 10 percent in academic achievers in the Class of 2018 at Southern Vance High School were honored and included: Kailee Ball, Reina Banda Orozco, Itzy Chavarin Contreas, Cody Edwards, Adriana Evans, Cynthia Hernandez, Walter Hernandez, Emily Isidro, Perla Lopez, Brandon Loyd, Crystal Marrow, Ashley Mosley, Litzy Renteria, Onjahlaya Robinson, Karen Sandoval, Kaitlyn Tant, Antoinette Watson, Destiny Williams and Aliyah Wright.

At Northern Vance High School, the top 10 percent of 2018 graduates include: Akyvia Alston, La’Niayah Bates, Clara Bobbitt, Kwaji Bullock, Jordan Burnette, Briana Coleman, Diamond Durham, Jamon Glover, Destini Hargrove, Madison Hetrick, Makayla Jefferys, Jadyn Jones, Autumn Julian, Laneka Littlejohn, Erin McAllister, Manaya Perry, Shyanne Robertson, Christopher Stainback, Cody Stainback and Jonathan Vu.

Early College Graduates Honored at Class Night

Members of the Class of 2018 at Vance County Early College High School were honored during the evening of May 15 at their Class Night.

A total of 38 seniors are in the graduating class.

During the Class Night celebration, they received accolades for their accomplishments in high school and many of them were presented with thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to further their education at four-year colleges and universities in the fall.

An audience of over 400 parents, other family members and friends attended the event in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College.

Applications are now being accepted for students to enroll for the 2018-2019 school year at the Vance County Early College High School.

All rising ninth-grade students are welcome to apply.

Applications are available now from school counselors at Eaton-Johnson Middle School, Henderson Middle School and the STEM Early High School. Students at these schools should complete the application and turn it in to their school counselor by 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 15.

All applications for the freshman cohort for 2018-2019 must be received by Early College High School no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, February 16.

Applications also are available online on the school’s website.
