TownTalk: Versatrim To Hold Job Fair Saturday

Versatrim, a manufacturer of various moldings for residential installation, is sponsoring a job fair this Saturday, Mar. 25 at their facility on Eastern Minerals Road, located just off U.S. 1, south of Henderson.

The job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to company representatives who spoke Monday with John C. Rose on TownTalk. There will be onsite tours of the warehouse and customer service areas, which help prospective employees get a feel for the manufacturing facility, Brandi Parker, interim human resources manager, said.

Although Versatrim participates in job fairs sponsored by other groups like NC Works, Saturday’s onsite job fair is a first, Parker said.

People will “have the opportunity to come and see what Versatrim does,” agreed Viridiana Badillo, human resources assistant.

All of the 12 positions that Versatrim currently has available are full-time positions – that means a 40-hour workweek, with full benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance.

In addition, Versatrim offers a couple of extras at no cost to the employee – $25,000 life insurance, and teledoc services that include urgent care and mental health services.

Parker said she’s proud of the employee development opportunities that the company has initiated; various community entities have come out to share information about such things as nutrition, fitness, homebuying and the importance of getting a GED.

“This is more than just where you come to work,” Parker said. Versatrim’s “team” concept provides support for employees, she said. They fully expect to double or triple their growth over the next few years, Parker added.

There are two shifts at the facility, and when all the lines are running, they can produce 10,000 pieces of molding each day.

Most of the open positions are for first-shift, which uses more workers than the second shift. The shifts can range from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., depending on the station.

Versatrim prioritizes quality, Badillo said. There are quality control checks throughout the manufacturing process, even “once it’s wrapped and ready to go out the door,” she said. “We take quality very serious here.”

The Local Skinny! Maria Parham Health To Host Job Fair On Thursday

Maria Parham Health is hosting a job fair from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19. There are a variety of clinical and non-clinical jobs available.

Human Resources Director Randy Toscano spoke with John C. Rose on Tuesday’s segment of The Local Skinny! and said job applicants could possibly be extended an offer at the job fair.

Applicants should bring a resume and may apply online beforehand, but it’s not necessary, Toscano said. There will be a computer set up in the hospital lobby to apply. There will be information tables from each department set up and the department heads will be available to speak with prospective applicants.

Among the departments that are looking to fill positions are nursing, radiology, registration and labs, he said. Individuals who are interested in a career in the health care industry are encouraged to attend. “You can walk out with a new career,” Toscano said.

There is always a need for phlebotomists, LPNs and RNs, he added, but also in non-clinical areas such as housekeeping, registration and food service.

The Local Skinny: Five County Job Fair Coming To Oxford Saturday

The next Kerr-Tar Community Job Fair is here, this Saturday, August 21.  Twenty or more employers and other community resource providers will gather from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Hix Field in Oxford.

As Desiree Brooks, business service manager for the Workforce Development Board of the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments explains, as of now over 20 employers from all five counties of Kerr-Tar will be present.

“We were trying to target a Saturday this go around just to kind of give others the opportunity to come out if that’s their desire.  We are hoping that it will be convenient for all.  We are really anticipating a great turn out,” Brooks said.

The last job fair held in June in Henderson for Vance, Granville, Warren, Franklin and Person Counties was a huge success Brooks said.  Over 200 people turned out on a Friday at the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre.

She said, “Everyone was pleased, and we got so much positive feedback from employers.  There were hires there and people filling out applications.  So, it will be the same thing at this event, and we are hoping we will have even more people in attendance.”

The success is based on cooperation and partnerships with Vance Granville Community College, Chambers of Commerce and other governmental agencies along with the Kerr-Tar Workforce Development Board and NC Works.

When asked who would attend, Brooks said, “We’ve got ADUSA or Food Lion Distribution Center, Altec, Amcor, Bridgestone, Captive Aire, Carolina Sunrock, which they’ll have a simulator at the event too so you can actually get live experience.  We’ve got City of Creedmoor, City of Oxford, County of Granville, Granville County Health Systems, Granville County Sheriff’s Office, MGM Products, Murdock Center, Ontic, Plastic Ingenuity, Polywood, Revlon, Ricewrap, Spuntech and Versatrim.”

TownTalk: Drive In To Job Fair Friday At Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre

The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre’s main feature on Friday is not the latest Hollywood movie – it’s a 5-county job fair sponsored by the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments. Forty employers will be on site to talk to prospective job seekers about their employment opportunities.

Desiree Brooks spoke with John C. Rose on Thursday’s Town Talk and said the job fair is definitely a team effort, thanks to valuable partnerships with Vance-Granville Community College, NCWorks, Chambers of Commerce and other governmental entities. The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“When we started promoting this, we were thinking we should be able to get 20 to 25 employers,” Brooks said. But thanks to efforts by the local chambers, economic development directors and others, the job fair exceeded that expectation.

In addition to employers from Vance, Granville, Franklin, Warren and Person counties, there will be other resources at the job fair, including KARTS, Granville-Vance Public Health, Granville County Department of Social Services and VGCC.

Having so many employers all in one central location is a good chance for job seekers to meet face-to-face those who are looking to hire employees. “They are looking forward to meeting people in the five-county area – it’s a great opportunity to meet them in person,” she said.
