Aycock Rec. Center to Host First Aqua Egg Hunt

The Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department announces its first annual Aqua Egg Hunt to be held at the Aycock Recreation Center pool on Monday, April 6, 2020. Activities are planned from 5:30 until 8 p.m.

The pool egg hunt is open to all kids ages 17 and younger. All swim levels are welcome; life vests are provided if needed. Parents are required to be in the pool area. Please bring your own container to collect eggs. Eggs will be traded in for prize bags at the end of the hunt.

Schedule of Events:

5:30 – 6 p.m. – Check-In

6 p.m. – Egg hunt begins

7 – 8 p.m. – Crafts, prizes and temporary tattoos in the lobby

Registration Underway for Vance Co. Special Olympics Volleyball

Vance County’s Special Olympics Volleyball will play on Tuesday nights from March 24 through May 26, 2020, at the Aycock Rec. Center. Games will be held from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Applicants must pre-register by Friday, March 13, 2020.

The purpose of the Vance County Special Olympics North Carolina is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

D.R.E.A.M. Fashion & Talent Showcase for Local Youth

Come out and support D.R.E.A.M. 2020 (Diverse Roles in Entertainment Arts and Music) Fashion and Talent Showcase being held on Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 6 – 9 p.m. in the E.M. Rollins Elementary School Auditorium.

The showcase is open to children and teenagers and will feature drama, dance, musical instruments, singing and fashion. The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 18.

Admission is $7 for ages 18 and older; $5 for children ages 6-17.

The Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department is excited to introduce Toshia Somerville as the new Administrative Support Specialist.

Toshia is a native of Hampton Roads, Virginia. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Buying and Marketing.

Following graduation, she enlisted in the US Army and served seven years as an Arabic Linguist. After her service, she attended Regis University where she received a Master of Business Administration Degree.

Toshia is married to Corei Somerville and they have 4 children – Alexis, Corei Jr., Jaelen and Jeremiah. Toshia enjoys giving back to her community and is excited to be part of the Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks team.

Fourth Annual P.U.L.L. Event to Feature Games, Fun & Free Haircuts!

Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks announces the fourth annual Henderson – Vance P.U.L.L. (Peace, Unity, Love, Live) event Wednesday, August 21 – Sunday, August 25, 2019.

The five-day event features free haircuts for school-age kids at participating businesses, a basketball tournament at the former Henderson Middle School gym, a softball game at Aycock Rec. Complex and a community festival and cookout at Chestnut Street Park.
