Mast Drug Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at New Dabney Dr. Location

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning at the new Mast Family Drug facility located at 418 Dabney Drive in Henderson.

Richard “Dicky” Flye, president and CEO of Mast Family Drug Company, family, friends, staff, community leaders and supporters gathered to celebrate the store’s recent grand opening.

The multi-generational business, part of the Henderson community for 60 years, celebrated its move from its previous location at 501 S. Chestnut Street to its new location beside Quick Print on the more heavily-traveled Dabney Drive.

At 4,500 square feet, the new location is more than double the size of the old building, allowing for a bigger pharmacy area, larger storefront and a gift shop.

Founder Bill Mast, Flye’s father-in-law, was in attendance at the event. “He has always been loyal to this town,” Flye said of Mast. “We wanted to reinvest in Henderson. We wanted to stay a part of Henderson and to honor part of what he [Mast] started; we are thankful for him.”

Mast Family Drug is open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Regional Economic Dev. Summit to Feature Bestselling Author

You are invited to attend an exciting Regional Economic Development Summit at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center on Thursday, February 20, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This is a free event with lunch included.

The summit is a five-county regional event, being planned by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce and Vance County Economic Development, along with the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments, and the other Chambers and EDC offices in Franklin, Granville, Warren, and Person Counties.

This is a “must-attend” event for business owners, developers, manufacturing managers, small business owners, governmental leaders, etc.

There will be panel discussions and presentations concerning economic development program efforts that have been successful in other small, rural communities.

A highlight of the day will be the presentation by keynote speaker Doug Griffiths, an international speaker and author of the bestselling book “13 Ways to Kill Your Community.”

Michele Burgess, H-V Chamber President said, “When I was hired back at the Chamber in July, I heard about this book from some other Chamber presidents and immediately ordered it and read it. It’s incredible! Griffiths knows all the challenges we face in small communities, and he has good solutions to offer us on how to approach our economic development and make the improvements necessary in our mindset to turn our community into a thriving, beautiful, and progressive town.”

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce and the VGCC Small Business Center welcome Roberta McCullough, executive director of the Women’s Business Center of NC to speak at the WOVEN (Women of Vance Empowered Networking) lunch and learn on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the VGCC Civic Center.

McCullough will present “Now That I Know,” discussing her experiences in non-profit/for-profit management as a woman and what she has learned from the experience. McCullough leads her team to empower women-owned/led businesses in 52 counties by offering tools to support and establish new businesses while generating sustainable profits and future growth.

The event begins at 12 p.m. and includes lunch.

The cost is $20 and registration is required by Tuesday, January 14, 2020. You do not have to be a Chamber member to attend, so bring a friend!

It’s time to apply for Leadership Vance! If you haven’t been through the Chamber’s Leadership Vance program, you don’t want to miss the 2020 session.

Leadership Vance is a proven, structured program, designed to create a corps of informed and dedicated emerging leaders in our community. Upon graduation, program participants will be qualified to meet the present and future challenges facing Henderson and Vance County.

Leadership Vance will inform, challenge and educate participants on the opportunities and needs of the community. Participants will strengthen their leadership skills while learning about the social, economic, and political dynamics that shape our community.

Leadership Vance will encourage the development of interpersonal relationships among the participants and establish an ongoing resource network.

The intensive training and exposure to all aspects of the community will provide participants with the historical background and the skills necessary for volunteer, civic and community positions. It will also benefit participants in their business and career goals.

Individuals who live or work in Vance County are invited to apply. A select number of participants will be chosen by the Leadership Vance Selection Committee and will represent all backgrounds, occupations and geographic areas of Vance County.

To receive maximum benefit from Leadership Vance, it is essential that participants and their employers be willing to commit the time necessary for successful completion of the program. A participant is expected to attend all sessions, barring extreme emergencies. A maximum of two excused absences is permitted in order to graduate from the Leadership Vance program. All participants are expected to plan and participate as a team in a community service project.

The program cost is $350 for Chamber members and $425 for non-Chamber members. The tuition fee includes all course materials, meals, retreat expenses, travel, graduation banquet and diploma.

All participants should submit a completed application to the Chamber office no later than Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Reminder: Jan 3 Nomination Deadline for H-V Chamber’s Citizen of the Year

The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking nominations for the 2019 Citizen of the Year.

This annual award honors an individual who has made a significant contribution and demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of Henderson and Vance County.

The criteria used in making the selection includes:

  • The person must be a resident of the Henderson-Vance County community.
  • The acts and good deeds for which the award is presented must have been performed for the benefit of Vance County and its citizens.
  • The community at large should recognize, once the award is made, that it is deserved.
  • The activities resulting in the award should be regarded outside the recipient’s normal business or profession.
  • The recipient does not have to be a member of the Chamber.

Citizens and Chamber members are encouraged to nominate those they feel are deserving of this recognition.

Nomination forms are available at the Chamber and should be submitted in writing to the Chamber office by Friday, January 3, 2020.

The award will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting and Banquet to be held Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center.

The Board of Directors of the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce cordially invites you to attend the Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet on Thursday, January 30, 2020.

The banquet will be held at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center from 5 until 8:30 p.m. and will feature a “new and exciting program developed by the planning committee.”
