Henderson-Vance Chamber accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year

Do you know an outstanding local citizen?

The Citizen of the Year award is presented each year by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce to
recognize an individual for their volunteer work to make our community a better place to live.
The criteria used in making the selection includes:

  • The person must be a resident of the Henderson-Vance County community.
  • The acts and good deeds for which the award is presented must have been performed for the benefit of Vance County and its citizens.
  • The community at large should recognize, once the award is made, that it is deserved.
  • The activities resulting in the award should be regarded outside the recipient’s normal business or profession.

The recipient does not have to be a member of the Chamber. 
Deadline is Friday, December 30th!

WRAL TV’s Scott Mason to give Keynote Address at Henderson-Vance Chamber Banquet

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce will hold its 79th Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
Keynote speaker will be WRAL’s Tar Heel Traveler, Scott Mason. As a Road Scholar presenter, this project is made possible by funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The event will take place at Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

So-ul Delicious Celebrates Reopening with Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, November 2 for So-ul Delicious to celebrate the restaurant’s re-opening and membership with the Chamber.  They were joined by the Chamber staff, friends, and family to celebrate their opening.  All guests were treated to a tasteful treat and beverage after the ribbon cutting.

At So-ul Delicious you will find on the menu some classics like fried fish, Chit’lins, pig’s feet, turnip greens, and cabbage to name only a few items topped off with some homemade sweets for dessert (apple or peach cobbler and banana pudding).  Their menu is relatively inexpensive.

Owner, Rosa Perry, the heart of So-ul Delicious would tell you it is the food you get when you cook with your whole heart and soul. Her dishes are the comfort foods she learned to make over the years, the very ones she raised her family on and served in her restaurant and catering business. Perry said, “When you taste our food, you taste the love and devotion that makes So-ul Delicious.”

H/V Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for Lifestyle Furniture and Mattress Gallery

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for Lifestyle Furniture and Mattress Gallery.  The community was invited to come out and meet the staff, show their support, and learn all about this local business. The event began at 10:00 AM at their 135 US 158 Bypass location in Henderson.

A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday, October 13th for Allure Xtensions Hair Boutique to celebrate this new business and membership with the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce.  Friends and family of owner Winter McMannen, chamber staff and local dignitary and businesses joined them in their celebration at their 939C West Andrews Avenue location in Henderson.

Shop with a Cop Returns for 2016

The Henderson Police Department and the Vance County Sheriff’s Office have partnered with the Vance County Department of Social Services to assist children and families in the City of Henderson and Vance County during the holiday season through the “Shop with a Cop” program.

Funds raised through the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce “Shop with a Cop” raffle and by generous donors will be used to help underprivileged children and struggling families who otherwise would go without during the holidays. Individuals and families selected will have the opportunity to “Shop with a Cop” with one of Henderson’s and Vance County’s law enforcement officers.

Individuals or families wishing to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program can pick up applications on October 18th, 19th, 27th, and 28th at the front desk of three locations: the Henderson Police Department at 200 Breckenridge Street; the Vance County Sheriff’s Office at 156 Church Street; and the Department of Social Services at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson.

Completed applications must be returned to any of the three pickup locations no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2016.

New Teacher Bag Donations

New Teacher Bag Donations

We need your help to welcome our new teachers to Vance County!  Snacks, gum, candy, water bottles, notepads, pens, pencils, coupons etc. are just a few of the things we need to pack in the bags. Make sure your business name and contact information is on the items you donate.

We will be packing 120 bags and these will be distributed to new teachers at all Vance County Public schools, Kerr-Vance Academy, Henderson Collegiate, Vance Charter, and Crossroads Christian.

Benchmark Community Bank Holds Grand Opening

Henderson businesses take note:  you now have a new local banking option.

On Wednesday, May 25, Benchmark Community Bank held a grand opening celebration at its new office on Graham Avenue across from Ribeyes Steakhouse.  With the help of the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce and representatives from Benchmark’s headquarters, Vice President and Business Banker, Kim Jordan, officially cut the ribbon and welcomed chamber members, Henderson officials, and area businesses.

The Henderson location is Benchmark’s second in North Carolina.  In 2014, an office specializing in real estate loans was opened in Wake Forest.  After a very successful first year, both the staff and the focus at that office were expanded.  The decision to add a separate location in Henderson to serve the business community here quickly followed.

Although its physical presence in North Carolina is new, Benchmark has been helping North Carolina residents and businesses with their borrowing needs for many years.  Established in 1971 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, the bank expanded into southernmost central Virginia starting in the late 1980’s with South Hill.   Folks from across the border were among the early customers there.  The Clarksville loan office, opened in 1998, saw an influx of North Carolinians seeking loans to buy or build on lake property.  Then, in 2004, when a loan office was opened in South Boston, a number of Roxboro area residents were added to the client mix.  With the establishment of full-service branches in each place, and the advent of Internet Banking, many North Carolina customers chose to open deposit accounts as well. While services are still limited in North Carolina, some of these customers can now tend to certain financial affairs here.
