Updates on the Henderson Men’s Homeless Shelter:

Christmas is upon us and we wish you and yours a blessed holy season and much joy in 2020. As you are snug and warm with your family, please remember the men in the men’s shelter and Hope House who need our love and support.

The 2019/2020 season has started out well with lots of different volunteers and some steady friends who volunteer on a regular basis (you are an answer to our prayers).

We’ve been averaging nine men per night with a total of 349 nights of refuge so far! We have served 20 different men – some staying just one night as they pass through Henderson, and some staying for many weeks as they work towards better housing. Three have full-time jobs and nine have some sort of disability. We are glad that we can help those in need.

We will gladly send someone to talk to your church groups if it will help involve more volunteers.

Often folks who have been helped by Rebuilding Hope become volunteers. “After Rebuilding Hope built a ramp for me,” Taurus Howard says, “I came up to see if I could volunteer.”

Taurus joined the team about eight months ago. Seeing how volunteers worked together “brought a tear to my eye. I wanted to give back,” says the Henderson resident. “To go out on a job site and see the elderly with smiles on their faces makes me feel good,” he says. “I want them to know that there are still good people in the world.”

A member of Red Bud Baptist Church, Taurus says he would encourage others to become RHI volunteers “because for one thing, we’re put on this earth to help one another, not just take.”

“I look forward to coming up here,” he says. “I have no complaints. God is good.”
