Dunlow Honored by Guardian ad Litem Program for 9th Judicial District

Attorney John Dunlow was honored by the Guardian ad Litem program for the 9th Judicial District which includes Granville, Franklin, Person, Vance and Warren Counties on August 7, 2018.

At the lunch event attended by his peers, District 9 Guardians and GAL staff, Mr. Dunlow was recognized for faithfully serving as the GAL Attorney Advocate in Granville County for over twenty years.

Mary Jo Van Horne, GAL District Supervisor, shared a message from North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper commending Mr. Dunlow:

“On behalf of the State of North Carolina, it is a pleasure to congratulate you on your 20th anniversary of service as attorney advocate to the Guardian ad Litem Program of Judicial District 9.   This is certainly a special occasion, and I know that the entire community appreciates your many contributions over the years.

I join your family, friends and colleagues in wishing you an outstanding anniversary celebration.  You have my best wishes for continued success and happiness in all your future endeavors.”

A commendation for Attorney Advocate Longevity from Cindy Bizzell, North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Administrator, was also presented to Mr. Dunlow.

The Guardian ad Litem program’s mission is to provide trained independent advocates to represent and promote the best interests of abused, neglected and dependent children in the state court system and to work expediently toward a plan that ensures these children are in a safe, permanent home. Town of Stem Invites Public to Opening of Renamed Jack Day Community Park

You are cordially invited by the Town of Stem to the Grand Re-Opening of the recently renamed Jack Day Community Park on Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. with family fun in the park to follow. The park is located on Franklin Street in Stem beside the Stem Fire Department (100 Franklin Street).

Over the past two grant cycles, the Granville County Parks and Recreation Committee has funded the Town of Stem for projects at this park. We are looking forward to this event and to seeing recreation facilities grow in Stem!

Kittrell Community Watch to Hear from Granville Co. Sheriff

The Kittrell Community Watch will meet Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 6535 Raleigh Road (US#1 Business South), Henderson, NC.

Guest speaker will be Brindle Wilkins, Jr., Sheriff of Granville County. He will highlight what his county is doing to prevent crime, deal with the drug problem and keep the citizens of his county safe.

Light refreshments will be served.

All are invited, even if you reside outside the area.

Granville Co. Parks & Rec. Committee to Meet Tues., Aug 14

The Granville County Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will meet on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 5 p.m. at Thornton Library in Oxford. Please note that this is a change from the committee’s standing meeting time of the third Tuesday of each month.

  • Update on FY 2019 grants and municipal allocations

Gazebo Park to Play Host to Chamber’s Second ‘Alive After Five’ of Season

Good times will be had on Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s “Alive After Five” event to be held at Gazebo Park, Central Avenue, in Butner.

This second event in the 15th anniversary “Alive After Five” series will feature free admission, concessions and live music by The Konnection Band.

The third, and final, event of the series will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot on Gilliam Street in downtown Oxford. The band Jim Quick & Coastline will be musical guests.

Creedmoor Police to Host ‘National Night Out Against Crime’ at South Granville High

“National Night Out” (NNO) is a crime/drug prevention annual event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

NNO is held nationwide with thousands of participating communities joining forces to raise the awareness of crime and drug prevention. This event is intended not only to educate citizens on drug and crime awareness but also to generate support for and assistance in anti-crime efforts. Strengthening police/community relations sends a direct message to criminals letting them know that citizens, as well as communities, are organized and fighting back!

Creedmoor’s National Night Out Celebration 
Every year, the Creedmoor Police Department hosts this community event at South Granville High School located on NC-Highway 56 on the first Tuesday of August from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Residents across the county are encouraged to turn off the television, leave troubles behind, and come out to spend a fun-filled evening with their fellow neighbors, family, and police!

Activities include:

  • Free Hot Dogs (Grilled & Served by CPD officers)
  • Free Soft Drinks & Water
  • DJ
  • McGruff the Crime Dog
  • Face Painting
  • Interactive Children’s Games
  • Inflatables
