On Monday, December 11, the VGCC Community Band will present its annual Holiday Concert at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center in downtown Henderson. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. There is no charge for admission. The public is invited to this performance, which will feature a variety of seasonal music and non-holiday favorites. Selections will include patriotic music, a medley influenced by the popular sea shanty genre, and holiday songs ranging from “Mary, Did You Know?” to “Santa at the Symphony.”

The Optimist Essay Contest is now underway. It is open to Vance County residents who are under the age of 19 (as of October 1, 2023 and have not completed High School. The deadline for the Optimist Club of Henderson to receive entries to the contest is February 2, 2024. They can be dropped off at Schewel’s Furniture, 940 S. Beckford Dr. (see Charles Hearn). This year’s topic is “Optimism: How it Connects Us.” First prize is $150, Second prize is $125 and third prize is $100. Project “ROLL ON” is now underway at Rebuilding Hope to gain support in acquiring much needed funds to repair the damaged pavement around our building. The parking lot and driveways are in real need of resurfacing to prevent damage to vehicles and allow proper drainage from the building. This project will require about $100,000 to complete it properly. Rebuilding Hope is funded solely from individuals, churches, and business entities, and they ask for help with continuing this good work.
