Henderson PD Crime of the Month: Hendersonian Suffers Gunshot Wound Inside Residence

On March 12, 2017 at approximately 9:33 PM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 250 Keene Street in reference to a shooting into a residence. Upon arrival officers that Jacqueline Terry had sustained injuries resulting from a gunshot to the leg. There were also four other individuals inside the residence at the time of the shooting whom did not report any injuries. Terry was transported to a local medical facility to receive further treatment for her injuries.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. If anyone should have any information related to this case, they are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925 or the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $2,000 for information that may lead to an arrest. Callers may remain anonymous.

Henderson PD Crime of the Month: No Limit Sweepstakes Robbed at Gunpoint

On March 29, 2017 at approximately 2:02 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 941 W. Andrews Avenue Suite F (No Limits Sweepstakes) in reference an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Elizabeth Black who stated that a subject forced his way into the business while pointing a handgun at her. The suspect took a brown envelope containing U.S. currency and ran out the front door of the business.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. VGCC to hold 33rd benefit golf tournament on May 2

Vance-Granville Community College’s 33rd Annual Endowment Fund Golf Tournament, presented by Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. All event proceeds support the mission of the college, the Endowment Fund and student scholarships.

With the support of numerous golfers and sponsors, the annual event has raised more than $750,000 since its inception in 1985. The 2016 tournament alone generated a record-breaking $104,160.

This year’s morning and afternoon rounds will begin with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and at 1 p.m. The afternoon round is sold out, but there are openings in the morning round.

The format is four-person “Captain’s Choice Super Ball.” Golfers can form their own teams of four, or sign up and be put on a team. Teams will be handicapped based on handicaps supplied by each player. Trophies will be awarded for first net, second net and first gross. Other awards will be given for “closest to the pin” and “longest drive.”

A hole-in-one on Hole 9 will be rewarded with a 2017 Cadillac XT5, courtesy of Charles Boyd Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC. A player who hits a hole-in-one (with a $10 donation) on Hole 16 will win $5,000, while another $5,000 will be awarded to the VGCC Endowment Fund.

The cost for one golfer to enter the tournament is $150. In either round, that fee includes greens fees, cart, meals, gift bag and practice balls.

A light breakfast, lunch and dinner (immediately following the afternoon round) will be served in the HCC clubhouse. A silent auction and door prize drawings will be held in conjunction with dinner.

Businesses and individuals can take advantage of sponsorship opportunities at various levels. Businesses may also donate products or premium items featuring the company’s logo to be placed in golfers’ gift bags, or to be given as door prizes.

Eighteen Year Old Hendersonian Shot and Killed

On Sunday, April 02, 2017, at 7:16 p.m. members of the Henderson Police Department Patrol Division responded to Party Pick Up, 655 N. Garnett Street, Henderson in response to calls of someone shot.  When officers arrived they located one victim, Talik Ahmad Harris, 18, 1220 Second Street, Henderson.  Harris was determined to be deceased upon arrival of emergency medical personnel.

The investigation into this matter has been turned over to the Henderson Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.  Anyone witnessing this event or having been in the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141 or the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.

Vance County Schools FRC to host “Senior Night” Info Session

The Vance County Schools Family Resource Center is hosting a free “Senior Night” information session on Tuesday, April 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. for high school students and their parents.

Students and parents can come at any time during the three hours to receive valuable information from high school counselors about the college application process, financial aid opportunities and educational services and programs provided through Vance-Granville Community College.

The session will be held in the Family Resource Center, located in the school system’s Administrative Services Center at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson.
