Warren County Senior Center Sponsoring Shopping Trips

The Warren County Senior Center is hosting a couple of shopping trip to Hamrick’s – one on Monday, Dec. 8 and a second on Thursday, Dec. 11.

This outing offers the local senior community a great opportunity to shop, socialize and enjoy a relaxed morning of community connections – without having to drive themselves!

The group will leave the Warren County Senior Center at 9 a.m. and return by 1 p.m. Transportation will be provided by the center, and staff will be available to assist participants as needed throughout the trip.

Warren County Senior Center Hosting Thanksgiving Meal Nov. 21 – Register Now!

The Warren County Senior Center is hosting a special Thanksgiving celebration on Friday, Nov. 21 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and invites local seniors to come to the Senior Center to enjoy a meal, fellowship and plenty of holiday cheer.

Space is limited to 50 people, so be sure to sign up early to reserve your seat!

The Warren County Senior Center is located at 435 W Franklin St. in Warrenton.

Free Computer Classes Offered At Warren County Senior Center; Registration Required

The Warren County Senior Center is the location for Basic and Intermediate Computer Classes beginning on Sept. 16 for county residents who want to learn more about using computers.

The six-week course, taught by an instructor from Vance-Granville Community College, is designed for beginner and intermediate learners, according to information from Warren County.

The course provides a supportive and engaging environment for seniors to build confidence and enhance their computer skills. Whether you are brand new to using a computer or looking to expand your current knowledge, this class offers a great opportunity to learn at your own pace with expert guidance.

Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Warren County Senior Center. The class is free, but registration is required. For additional information or registration, contact Senior Center Activity Director Aquayla Lynch at 252.257.3111.

Warren County Fan Giveaway For Eligible Seniors Begins Friday, July 25

The Warren County Senior Center’s Operation Fan Relief will soon be up and running, thanks to a contribution from Kerr-Tar Council of Governments, the Warren County Senior Center has a limited number of box fans for eligible residents.

Beginning Friday, July 25, 2025, the Warren County Senior Center will give away box fans to eligible residents. To be eligible, individuals must be county residents 60 years and older and have a home situation where a threat to health and well-being exists, i.e., no air conditioning.

Individuals who received a fan last year are not eligible. One fan per household, please.

For those meeting criteria, fans can be picked up at the Warren County Senior Center, 435 W. Franklin Street, Warrenton beginning Friday, July 25 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the supply lasts.

Warren County Senior Center Plans Jan. 23 Field Trip To Local Vineyard, Winery

Join the Warren County Senior Center for a tour and lecture at Kim’s Vineyard and Winery on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025. The lecture will focus on the science behind wine making, and the challenges to maintain a vineyard to produce the perfect grape. The group will depart the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and return by 2 p.m. There outing is free and lunch will be provided. Kim’s Vineyard and Winery offers a variety of homegrown canned vegetables and fruits for purchase at your own expense.

Kim’s Vineyard was started in Warren County by Cheryl and Walter Royster in 1995. It began as a hobby of planting a few rows of grapes by Royster to test out his “green thumb.” Over the years, more rows were planted which grew into Kim’s Vineyard. In 2004 Kim’s Vineyard expanded by adding a winery. The grape vineyard itself covers more than five acres of land and the winery sits on two acres. This is a “mom and pop” operated business that caters to everyone. Although the vineyard is seasonal, Kim’s Vineyard and Winery is open all year long. Kim’s Vineyard provides more than 18 different types of wine.

Warren County Senior Center Schedules Thrift Shop Trip Jan. 16 – Reserve Your Spot Early!

It’s Thrift Shop Thursday next week for the Warren County Senior Center, which is sponsoring a day trip for folks who want to shop for some bargains or just enjoy window shopping at InJoy Thrift Stores in Rocky Mount.

There’s no cost to participate in the Jan. 16 excursion – just pay for the treasures you may find while shopping and for lunch at Gardner’s Restaurant.

The group will depart the Warren County Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and will return by about 2 p.m. If you’d like to go, you’ll need to reserve your spot in advance. Seating is limited, so call the senior center at 252.257.3111 to get a spot saved for you.

The InJoy Thrift Stores are operated on Christian principles, by Christian people, from area churches providing great merchandise donated locally and sold at great prices. Profits support and fund Christian based ministries in the community and throughout the world.

Warren Seniors Can Get Coupons To Buy Fresh Produce At Local Farmers Market

The Warren County Senior Center and Warren County Cooperative Extension are teaming up to launch a program that will provide low-income senior adults with coupons that they can use to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at their local farmers’ markets.

Senior adults can visit the Warren County Senior Center on Mondays between 9 a.m. and 12 noon or Thursdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to get coupons once during the growing season. The program kicked off last week, but there’s still plenty of time to stop in and get qualified.

In addition to getting healthy foods into the hands of older adults to improve their nutritional status, the program also helps local farmers increase their business and creates awareness of the local farmers market, said

A recipient must be a Warren County resident aged 60 years or older and meet certain self-declared monthly income eligibility requirements.  Monthly household income of no more than 185 percent of the 2024 federal guidelines; up to $2,322 for a one-person household or $3,142 for a two-person household.

The coupons are valid through Sept. 30, 2024, for use at the Warren County Farmers’ Market, located in the parking lot of the Warren County Health Department, at 544 West Ridgeway St., Warrenton.  The Warren County Farmers’ Market operates on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, April through mid-October.

Warren Senior Center Issues Coupons For Use At Local Farmers’ Market

The Warren County Senior Center and Warren County Cooperative Extension announce the launch of the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) for 2022.  The SFMNP provides lower-income older adults with coupons to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at their local farmers’ markets.  The program’s dual goals are designed to improve the nutritional status of older adults and stimulate business for local farmers while creating a greater awareness of the farmers’ market.

The Warren County Senior Center is distributing coupons to eligible residents once during the growing season.  A recipient must be a Warren County resident aged 60 years or older and meet certain self-declared monthly income eligibility requirements.  These coupons can be used through Sept. 30, 2022, at the local Warren County Farmers’ Market, located in the parking lot of the Warren County Health Department, at 544 West Ridgeway St. in Warrenton.  The Warren County Farmers’ Market operates on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Income eligibility is $2,096 per month for an individual or $2,823 for a couple.

Warren Senior Center Offers Sweet Thank You To Local Law Enforcement

As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” But when the picture includes the words “Thank You,” it just adds value.

Representatives of Warren County law enforcement got some special recognition during the recent National Thank a Police Officer Day. Staff and volunteers from the Warren County Senior Center delivered cupcakes and thank you cards to local law enforcement agencies to thank them for their service to the community. Thank you cards and dozens of cupcakes were delivered to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the Warrenton Police Department, and the Norlina Police Department on Friday, Sept. 17 as an acknowledgement of appreciation.
