Two Arrested for String of Vance County Robberies

Press Release- June 13, 2017

On Friday, June 9, 2017, members of the Henderson Police Department Criminal Investigation Division arrested two individuals on armed robbery related charges.

Samika Renee Whitfield, 40, 349 Stagecoach Road, Henderson was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Whitfield was placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a $60,000 secured bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Vance County District Court on June 26, 2017. 

Alfred Perry, 56, 1524 E. Andrews Avenue, Henderson was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Perry was also placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a $60,000 secured bond.

He also has a preliminary hearing in Vance County District Court on June 26, 2017.

Charges is this matter arrived after an investigation revealed that these two were alleged to have robbed the Dollar General Store located at 718 Raleigh Road on June 3, 2017, The Dollar General located at 1670 N. Garnett Street on June 8, 2017, and the Family Dollar Store located at 112 Raleigh Road on June 9, 2017.

There were no injuries reported during the robbery incidents.

Henderson PD Crime of the Month: Hendersonian Suffers Gunshot Wound Inside Residence

On March 12, 2017 at approximately 9:33 PM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 250 Keene Street in reference to a shooting into a residence. Upon arrival officers that Jacqueline Terry had sustained injuries resulting from a gunshot to the leg. There were also four other individuals inside the residence at the time of the shooting whom did not report any injuries. Terry was transported to a local medical facility to receive further treatment for her injuries.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Multiple Trials Resolved in Vance County – Office of the DA

Henderson, NC – Jurors in Vance County Superior Court found Antwon Burt guilty of Battery on an Unborn Child and Simple Assault after hearing one day of testimony. Officers with the Henderson Police Department testified about their 2016 investigation of the defendant. Mr. Burt was sentenced to 210 days in the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Adult Correction (DAC). That sentence was suspended for 18 months of supervised probation by Judge Henry W. Hight, Jr. Mr. Burt was represented by Deborah Leigh Holtzman and Adam Mincher.

In the second jury trial of the week long session of Superior Court in Vance County, Melvin McDonald was found guilty by a Vance County jury of Resisting a Public Officer and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Judge Hight sentenced McDonald to an active sentence of 17 to 30 months in the DAC. McDonald was on probation at the time he was charged by officers with the Henderson Police Department. Judge Hight revoked McDonald’s probationary sentence as well. The defendant was represented by Scott Hamilton.

Maurice Manning plead guilty to Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Judge Hight sentenced Manning to a 16 to 29 month sentence that was suspended for 24 months of supervised probation to begin after the defendant had served a portion of his sentence in jail. Detective B. Logue with the Henderson Police Department investigated the case. Mr. Manning was represented by Nick Bagshawe.

Peter Lagattuta plead guilty to Felony Possession of Cocaine. Judge Hight sentenced Lagattuta to a 6 to 17 month sentence that was suspended for 18 months of supervised probation. Officer J. Henderson with the Henderson Police Department charged the defendant. Mr. Lagattuta was represented by J. Paul Stainback.

Arthur Henderson was found guilty of Driving While Impaired and Carrying a Concealed Gun after entering a plea of no contest. Mr. Henderson was given a 60 day sentence that was suspended for 12 months of supervised probation in each of his cases. B. Yarborough who was formerly with the Henderson Police Department charged Mr. Henderson with the gun charge, while Trooper J. Harrah with the NC State Highway Patrol charged Mr. Henderson with Driving While Impaired. The defendant was represented by Michael F. Rogers.

Jonathan Dailey plead guilty to Assault on a Female and was given a 75 day sentence that was suspended for 18 months of supervised probation. J. Aiken with the Vance County Sheriffs Office was the complainant. Defendant was represented by Deborah Leigh Holtzman.

Stanley Bullock, Jr. plead guilty to misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny. Mr. Bullock was given a 45 day sentence that was suspended for 18 months of supervised probation by Judge Hight. Detective J. Jones with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. The defendant was represented by Dorothy Lewis.

HPD Crime of the Month: Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle

On January 25, 2017 at approximately 9:21 PM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 518 Hickory Street in reference to a shooting into an occupied vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Jessica Howard who stated that while at the intersection of Lehman Street and Old Epsom Road a confrontation occurred that resulted in a handgun being fired into the windshield of her vehicle. There were no reported injuries resulting from the gun shot.

HPD Crime of the Month: Another Domino’s Pizza Delivery Driver Robbed

Press Release: February 1, 2017

On January 26, 2017 at approximately 8:50 PM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 156 Church Street (Vance County Sheriff’s Office) in reference an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers found that a delivery driver for Domino’s Pizza had been robbed in the roadway of the 300 block of Gary Street for an undetermined amount of US currency and thirty-two dollars’ worth of pizza.
