Henderson’s Sewer System Bypasses Half a Million Gallons of Untreated Water

The City of Henderson’s Sewer Collection System bypassed approximately 243,000 gallons of untreated water on June 17, 2020, due to inflow/infiltration from the heavy rain.

The overflow occurred at Neatherly St, E Rockspring St, the intersection of Pinkston St and Farrar Ave., Pinkston St. (Green Acres outfall), Alexander Ave., Willow Ln., 1812 BrookRun, 409 Harriett St., and Bridgers St.

Approximately 243,000 gallons of untreated water entered a tributary to Sandy Creek and Redbud Creek. Approximately  21,000 gallons were contained on the ground.

The City of Henderson’s Sewer Collection System bypassed approximately 255,750 gallons of untreated water on June 16-17, 2020, due to inflow/infiltration from the heavy rain.

The overflow occurred at 51 Vance Academy Road, 1646 W. Andrews Avenue, 1416 Rock Mill Road and 482 Rock Mill Road.

Approximately 11,250 gallons of untreated water entered a tributary to Sandy Creek, approximately 55,500 gallons entered Sandy Creek, 39,000 gallons entered Nutbush Creek and approximately 150,000 gallons were released into RedBud Creek.

North Carolina General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1c requires a press release for all bypasses of 1,000 gallons or more that enter surface waters.

Bypass of Untreated Wastewater Enters Red Bud Creek

Bypass of Untreated Wastewater

The City of Henderson’s Sewer Collection System bypassed approximately 2,100 gallons of untreated water on May 3, 2019, due to grease in the sewer main. This occurred on the Henderson Country Club golf course. The overflow entered Red Bud Creek.

North Carolina General Statute Article 21, Chapter 143-215.1C requires a press release for all bypasses of 1,000 gallons or more that enter surface waters.

Franklin Co. Public Utilities Reports Discharge of Untreated Wastewater in Youngsville

Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county: Franklin.

Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater from the Youngsville Regional pump station in Youngsville. The spill was a result of rain on Friday, December 28, 2018. The spill occurred at 4 p.m. on December 28, 2018, and discharged until 6 p.m. on December 28, 2018. The discharge of wastewater was estimated to be 3,600 gallons and it entered into an unnamed tributary of Richland Creek which is a tributary of the Neuse River Basin. Franklin County Public Utilities staff were dispatched to the site and started clean up after the overflow stopped.

Heavy Rains, Melting Snow Cause Multiple Untreated Wastewater Discharges

The City of Henderson experienced heavy rains and melting snow on December 14, 2018, causing flooding throughout the area that resulted in discharges of untreated wastewater.

The first discharge of an estimated 51,000 gallons at the Sandy Creek Pump Station, located at 482 Rock Mill Road was discharged into Sandy Creek.  The second discharge of an estimated 21,600 gallons at Redbud Pump Station, located at 51 Vance Academy Road was discharged into Redbud Stream.

There was also a bypass of approximately 28,050 gallons of untreated water on the same day due to infiltration/inflow at the intersection of Pinkston Street and Farrar Avenue and Neatherly Street.

Both are part of the Tar Pamlico River Basin. The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on December 16, 2018, and is reviewing the matter.

Pump Stations in Franklin Co. Release 19K Gallons of Untreated Wastewater

Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county: Franklin.

Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater from the Youngsville Regional pump station in Youngsville. The spill was a result of rain on Monday, November 12, 2018. The spill occurred at 8:20 p.m. on November 12, 2018, and discharged until 5:30 a.m. on November 13, 2018. The discharge of wastewater was estimated to be 10,800 gallons and it entered into an unnamed tributary of Richland Creek which is a tributary of the Neuse River Basin. Franklin County Public Utilities staff was dispatched to the site and started clean up after the overflow stopped.

Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater from the Franklinton Regional pump station in Franklinton. The spill was a result of rain on Monday, November 12, 2018. The spill occurred at 9:08 p.m. on November 12, 2018, and discharged until 9:33 p.m., then started discharging again at 12:46 a.m. on November 13, 2018, and discharged until 5:30 a.m. on November 13, 2018. The discharge of wastewater was estimated to be 8,200 gallons and it remained on the pump station site. Franklin County Public Utilities staff was dispatched to the site and started clean up after the overflow stopped.

The division of Water Quality was notified of these events on November 13, 2018, and is reviewing the matter. Franklin County Public Utilities staff was dispatched to the site and started clean up after the overflow stopped.
