Filing Period For Oct. 7 Municipal Elections Is Open Through 12 Noon July 18

Two of the four incumbents have filed to retain their seats on the Henderson City Council in the upcoming municipal elections set for Oct. 7.

Lamont Noel filed on Friday for the Ward 2 at large seat he now holds, joining Ward 4 Council member Ola Thorpe-Cooper, who filed on Monday, July 7. Noel’s filing sets up the first contested race for the non-partisan election. Benjamin Buckner filed earlier in the week for the Ward 2 at large seat.

Kenia Gomez-Jimenez filed for the Ward 1 at large seat, currently held by Council member Sara Coffey. No candidates have filed for the Ward 3 seat, currently held by Mayor pro tem Garry Daeke.

The filing period for the October 7 municipal elections in Vance County is open until 12 noon on Friday, July 18.

Other filers include:

  • Gene Pulley  Kittrell mayor
  • Mary Jo Floyd – Kittrell town commission
  • Shirley H. Bullock – Middleburg town council
  • Mamie Turner –  Middleburg town council
  • Hazel A. Baskett – Middleburg town council

 

According to information on the Board of Elections website, the deadline to withdraw a notice of candidacy and receive a refund (partisan and non-partisan municipalities) must be made by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. Candidates can still withdraw afterward but will not receive a refund.
Individuals who file for a seat must meet the general candidate requirements for the office they are seeking.

The filing period for the October 7 municipal elections in Vance County is open until 12 noon on Friday, July 18.

Half of the Henderson City Council seats are up for election – the at large seats in Ward 1 and Ward 2 as well as the seats for Wards 3 and 4.

Kenia Gomez-Jimenez has filed for the Ward 1 at large seat, Vance County Board of Elections Deputy Director Shelly Wood said Wednesday. That seat is currently held by Sara Coffey.

Benjamin Buckner filed Thursday for the Henderson City Council Ward 2 at large seat. That seat is currently held by Council member Lamont Noel.

Wednesday filers included Gene Pulley for Kittrell mayor and Shirley H. Bullock for Middleburg town council.

Mary Jo Floyd filed Tuesday for re-election to the Kittrell town commission.

On Monday, July 7, Ola Thorpe-Cooper filed for re-election to her Ward 4 seat on the Council, according to information Tuesday from Vance County Board of Elections Deputy Director Shelly Wood.

Kittrell, Middleburg Voters Have Candidates For Nov. 7 Election

The towns of Kittrell and Middleburg have a slate of candidates who have filed for mayor and seats on the town councils.

The elections will be held Nov. 7, according to Vance County Board of Elections Director Melody Vaughan.

Incumbent Mayor Jerry Joyner is running unopposed in Kittrell and there are three candidates for three seats on the town council: Mary Jo Floyd, Susan Pulley and Robert Tunstall.

In Middleburg, Ray Bullock is running unopposed for mayor and Hazel Baskett, Shirley Bullock and Mamie Turner have filed to be candidates for three seats on the town council.
