The Local Skinny! Servants on Site for Vance County

Rebuilding Hope’s 13th annual Servants on Site took place last week, and co-director Tom Wille said the 95 youth participants got a chance to work in the community, proclaiming joy, peace and hope from the rooftops – literally.

The youth replaced roofs on nine houses – seven in Vance County and two in Warren County. A number of teens who’ve participated in multiple SOS events have become quite skilled in the process.

They worked hard all day, and got to enjoy evening fellowship with one another, listening to a band and hearing a great message from this year’s speaker, Mitch Smith.

“It’s a very large effort to take the love of Christ out into the county, and share it in a very practical way,” Wille said on Monday’s segment of The Local Skinny!

With Romans 15:13 providing this year’s theme, Wille said the 95 youth and their leaders had the support of about 150 local volunteers who delivered meals to the work sites, helped oversee construction and provided overnight accommodations during the June 22-26 program.

Wille, who’s been a part of each of the previous SOS programs, said this year’s group did another outstanding job.

“We do the work that the Lord points us to,” he said.  “And that is growing people in Christ and rebuilding hope.

“There’s no other way to rebuild hope in anybody without encouraging them practically,” Wille continued. Whether it’s having gospel conversations or meeting their physical needs like providing water, a roof or a wheelchair ramp.

“If we don’t do those practical things, then we’re not doing anything,” he said.

Overnight accommodations and breakfast and supper were provided by Central Baptist Church, where praise and worship services were conducted each evening.

Nine area churches provided worksite lunches each day. The churches are Raleigh Road Baptist, Gardner Baptist, New Life Baptist, North Henderson Baptist, Oxford Baptist, Lake Gaston Baptist, Island Creek Baptist, West Oxford Baptist, West End Baptist churches and South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Rebuilding Hope’s Servants On Site Set For June 23-27

The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, a break on the cost of registering for the summertime Servants On Site program sponsored by Rebuilding Hope, Inc.

The dates are already set – June 23-27 – and early registration deadline is Jan. 15, according to information from the Rebuilding Hope, Inc. newsletter.

Registrations received by Jan. 15 will pay a total of $150; after Jan. 15, the cost will go up to $200. A deposit of $50 is required with registrations.

The fee covers the cost of a theme T-shirt, meals and lodging and scholarships are available.

SOS is described as a week of work, worship and witness in Vance and surrounding counties. It is a mission opportunity for youth – participants need to have completed sixth grade by the time SOS begins.

During the day, participants will work to repair and renovate homes in the area; there will be opportunities for fellowship and sharing the gospel, too, from daily devotions to worship services each evening.

Town Talk: ‘Servants on Site’ Event to Prepare Youth for Mission Work 06/18/19

Robbie Parham, a volunteer with Rebuilding Hope, Inc., was on Tuesday’s edition of WIZS’ Town Talk program to discuss the local ministry’s seventh annual Servants on Site week. This year’s event will be held June 22 – 29, 2019.

The event serves as a summer mission camp for middle and high school youth from various churches and organizations.

During the week, participants will help repair roofs and flooring, and build handicap ramps and handrails for local residents. Youth will have an opportunity to meet the homeowners and will participate in a worship service each evening.

“This gives young people an opportunity to see mission work, to be the hands and feet that Christ has called us to be,” said Parham.

Servants on Site Begins Seventh year of Service

SERVANTS ON SITE – SEASON 7 – SCANDALOUS GRACE

Rebuilding Hope Inc (RHI) has once again prepared for Servants on Site (SOS) to continue into its 7th year beginning this Sat., June 17th and running through Sat., June 24th.  Individual volunteers and groups from as far as Alabama will once again come together and call Crossroads Christian School in Henderson home.  For the entire history of this event, Crossroads has graciously opened its doors and allowed us to stay there and use their wonderful facilities, and we appreciate it very much.

SOS serves as a tool for churches to mobilize, equip, and disciple students and adults in an evangelistic effort to impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  This week will see over 200 youths, chaperons, and crew leaders combine with additional volunteers, runners, warehouse workers, feeding teams, and together, mobilize almost 300 volunteers to donate their time and resources in this unified mission.   We will attempt a total of 21 projects this year in Vance, Granville, Warren, and Mecklenburg counties.  Divided into 15 crews, we will attempt to replace nine roves and construct 12 handicapped ramps.

SOS is an annual 7-day summer mission project for youth (completed grade 6 through college) and adults to work on construction projects for homeowners in our community with immediate needs and limited resources.  Crews leave each weekday morning around 7:00 a.m. for their jobsites, work and minister to the residents and surrounding neighborhood, and at 4:00 p.m., return to the lodging facility in the afternoon for clean up and free time before dinner.  Lunches on site are provided by our sixteen “Sponsor Churches,” whose caring congregations have generously donated food, funds, adult volunteers, and worship ministers to make this annual mission a success.  These churches are of multiple denominations and are spread out through Henderson, Norlina, Oxford, and Creedmoor.

The theme for 2017 is “SCANDALOUS GRACE”, with reference to Romans 5:1-2 and many others.  Grace is God giving us something good that we do not deserve.  Jesus had a scandalous reputation among the Elite in his day for serving the not-so-desirable.  As a Christian today, are we being perceived as somewhat scandalous just for our beliefs?  “2 Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God.” Romans 5:2.  We will for this week turn our attention to glorifying God by showing his Grace through Faith, and inviting all to share in salvation through Jesus Christ.  Our continuing effort to keep the local media apprised of the efforts by so many people is simply to exhort even more churches and volunteers to join us, so that together we can continue to reach out in our communities.

Rebuilding Hope would again like to express its appreciation to everyone who has been involved with these uplifting summer mission projects over the last six years.  It is our first year working out of our new facility on Raleigh Road, and we would like to also acknowledge all the generous donations we received throughout these local communities that made it possible.  Thank You!  Together we have made an impact in our community by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not only in words, but in actions.

We would also like to express our appreciation to Central Baptist Church for providing their facilities for breakfast and dinner each night of the week.  Also, beginning Sunday the 18th through Friday the 23rd at 7:10 p.m., all of our teams and volunteers will gather for worship in their sanctuary located on 2574 Ruin Creek Rd. in Henderson.   We would like to invite anyone who would like to, come out and meet our mission participants, join our worship service and experience firsthand what God is doing through SERVANTS ON SITE.  Our hope for this week is that through all those involved, God’s Grace will be visible in these communities, hope replaces despair, and lives will be changed.  Thanks be to God!

Servants on Site Rebuild Hope in Henderson

Churches and families in Henderson send youth and adult mission teams to all parts of the U.S. and beyond, but last week 200 or so youth and adults poured into Henderson to work, serve and do mission work in this area on 14 different projects thanks to the efforts of Rebuilding Hope, Inc.  This local Christian, philanthropic organization is led by Randolph Wilson and many others.  Crossroads School in Henderson, Central Baptist Church and other local churches were instrumental in helping make the week’s work a success as well.

Robbie Parham with Rebuilding Hope told WIZS News the groups completed 99 percent of the 14 projects attempted, with 10 of them being in Vance County, three in Granville County and one in Warren County.  He said, “It is a real joy to see the teams that finished early go out and continue to work and help the other teams wrap up.”

Servants on Site (SOS) returned to Henderson for a sixth straight year, and they came here with the theme “Marked For God’s Purpose,” in reference to Ephesians 4:1 with the general meaning that with Christians there are marks of what it means to live a life worthy of the calling.

Part of a press release about the efforts said, “SOS is continuing itsRebuilding Hope SOS2016 (roofing2) mission as a tool for churches to mobilize, equip, and discipline students in an evangelistic effort to impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. … SOS is a 7-day summer mission project for youth (completed grade 6 through college) and adults to work on construction projects for homeowners in our community with immediate and limited resources. … Rebuilding Hope would again like to express its appreciation to everyone who has been involved with these uplifting summer mission projects over the last 5 years.  Together we have made an impact in our community by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not only in word, but in actions.”

Fun, fellowship, praise and worship, and evangelism were enjoyed by all.  Parham said, “Our young missionaries will head home with a renewed prospective on what it means to be The Church that Christ has called us to be.”  He said, “They have replaced despair with hope and shown the true meaning of the gospel.”

Many roofing projects were completed as a part of the week’s work.

Parham said Rebuilding Hope has outgrown its present home, and the organization is trying to purchase the old Coca-Cola Bottling Company building on Raleigh Road.  He said, “(We) believe that increased visibility will bring more volunteers to reach more neighbors and re-purpose and old Henderson landmark into a Christian outreach.”
