Rebuild Communities NC, AARP Team Up To Offer Technology Classes For Senior Adults

Rebuild Communities NC has partnered with Senior Planet from AARP to help people over 50 learn new online skills. When you sign up for the Digital Skills Ready@50+ program, you’ll gain the essential skills you need to navigate an increasingly digital world.

Whether you’re hoping to stay connected with family and friends, interested in learning new technology, exploring entrepreneurship, or looking for a job, the Digital Skills Ready@50+ lectures and workshops offer training on a wide range of technologies, from video conferencing and online job search tools to office productivity software.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Perry Memorial Library’s Farm Bureau Room from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The first session was held Tuesday, Sept. 10 and gave an overview of Smartphones.

Thursday, Sept. 19: Google Maps

Tuesday, Sept. 24: Gmail Tips & Tricks

Camp For Teens Interested In Law, Forensic Science

Local teens have an interesting opportunity to develop their sleuthing skills next week during a five-day camp at a local church.

Rebuilding Communities, Inc. is sponsoring “CSI, The Law and Leadership Camp” for teens between the ages of 13-17 from July 31-Aug. 4 at First United Methodist Church in Henderson.

The camp will be held daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to information from Edy Thompson, Rebuilding Communities, Inc. director.

Teens interested in learning more about what lawyers, forensic scientists and investigators do should register by calling 252.479.5019.

Some of the activities for the week include investigating mock crime scenes, fingerprint analysis and first aid and CPR certification.

 

 

VGCC Site Of Free Technology Class For Senior Adults

Rebuild Communities NC is partnering with AARP’s Senior Planet to provide a free class for senior adults to help them boost their technology skills.

It seems like computers and websites, online troubleshooting chats and QR codes are quickly becoming the norm in today’s daily experiences, and the Digital Skills Ready@50+ program may be a way to gain skills to help navigate an increasingly digital world.

Classes begin on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays through February, according to information from Edythe Thompson, executive director and CEO of Rebuilding Communities NC. Each class is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Whether you need to learn how to participate in video conferencing for work or if you just want to be able to visit online with faraway friends and family, the class offers trainings on a wide range of technologies.

All classes will be held at Vance-Granville Community College, Building 9, Seminar Room 2 – except the Jan. 12 class, which will be held in the conference room of Building 8.

VGCC is located at 200 Community College Rd., Henderson.
