Pinkston Street Elementary staff take home VCS Spirit Award

Pinkston Street Elementary staff members won the “Spirit Award” for Vance County Schools at the district’s Convocation for all employees on August 17.

 

Staff members were recognized as recipients of the award after their fantastic job in showing great school spirit as they were introduced at the Convocation in McGregor Hall.

 

All staff members wore “Pinkston Street Army” t-shirts, completed in Army green with gold lettering, and joined in a rousing cheer to show they are ready to begin the 2017-2018 school year.

 

They were led by Principal Heddie Somerville and Assistant Principal Jacqueline Crosson. They are shown in the photo, from left, with Principal Carnetta Thomas of L.B. Yancey Elementary School.

 

Superintendent Anthony Jackson presented Somerville with the large “VCS Spirit Award” pencil that is given to the school displaying the best school spirit at the event.

 

Staff members at Eaton-Johnson Middle School and Henderson Middle School, finished second and third, respectively, in the judging for the “VCS Spirit Award.”

Pinkston Street Elementary hosts “EOG Parent Night”

The Vance County Schools’ Family Resource Center hosted an “EOG Parent Night” on May 11 at Pinkston Street Elementary School for parents and their children who are in grades 3-5 in our 10 elementary schools.
Approximately 200 people attended the event. They participated in a variety of information sessions held in classrooms throughout the school to gain valuable strategies and advice on what to expect on the N.C. End-of-Grade tests in reading, mathematics and science.  
Parents and children rotated through the various sessions, which were all led by teachers in our elementary schools. The sessions were designed to provide them with information on the types of things that will be covered on the tests and how they can prepare at home and at school to be successful on the tests, which will be administered at the end of May.

Vance County Schools Plan Open Houses

Vance County Schools pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs opened registration and applications January 1, 2017.

We invite parents to visit our schools on the following dates.

 

Aycock Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

Carver Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

Clarke Elementary – Thursday, March 16

Dabney Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

E.M. Rollins Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

E.O. Young Jr. Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

L.B. Yancey Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

New Hope Elementary – Thursday, March 16

Pinkston Street Elementary – Tuesday,  March 14

Zeb Vance Elementary – Tuesday, March 14

 

School sites will be open between 1 and 6 p.m. for registration on these days.

Anyone may register their children on Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vance County Schools Administrative Services Center at 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson.

Pre-kindergarten students must be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2017, and kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2017.

Applications also are available online at www.vcs.k12.nc.us.

 

Please bring to registration:

  • Proof of child’s age (birth certificate, medical record, baptismal record)
  • Immunization record
  • Proof of Social Security number (Social Security card, official records)
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, rental lease or mortgage statement)
  • Proof of income (paycheck stub, tax forms)
