Granville Crime Stoppers

Burglary/Vandalism/Larceny on Gooch’s Mill Rd and NC Hwy 56

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon the private property of a residence located off Gooch’s Mill Road, Oxford, NC and criminally removed a Down to Earth utility trailer, black in color, from the yard. Also, a Simplicity Zero Turn lawn mower, red in color, and a Briggs and Stratton pressure washer, red and black in color, that were loaded onto the trailer were taken.

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, an unknown person or persons unlawfully went upon the private property of a residence located off NC Highway 56, Creedmoor, NC and forced entry of the residence, which caused criminal property damage, and unlawfully removed one 9mm handgun, newborn baby clothing, two gray lock boxes, numerous pieces of gold jewelry, medications and $170.00 in cash.

Oxford Board of Commissioners Meeting – Tues., July 10

The City of Oxford Board of Commissioners will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Board Room, City Hall.

Among the agenda items:

Recognition – July Yard of the Month – Powell Fox

Recognition – Gil Richardson – Retiring Volunteer Fireman

Recognition – Jimmy Watkins – Retiring Volunteer Fireman

Finance Award – Mayor Jackie Sergent to present The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Hak Ung for the City of Oxford.

Consider adopting a reimbursement resolution as required by the US Treasury Regulations Section 1.15-2 for the City to reimburse itself for capital asset purchases.

Consider resolution authorizing the City to engage in electronic payments as defined by G.S. 159-28 allowing the Finance Officer to create policies and procedures for electronic payments.

Consider adopting a Uniform Guidance Procurement Policy.

Consider adopting a Conflict of Interest and Gift Policy as required by the Federal Uniform Guidance Policy.

Approve the following two people to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission:

Masonic Home for Children at Oxford to Hold Annual Public Service Appreciation Day

The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, will hold its 6th Annual Public Service Appreciation Day on Friday, July 13, 2018. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Public service workers who received invitations to the event include those from the Oxford Police Department, Granville County Sheriff’s Office, EMS personnel, Oxford Fire Department, City Commissioners, City Manager, County Manager, Mayor and postal employees.

The luncheon will be held by the children and staff of the Masonic Home in appreciation of all that public service workers do to make the Oxford community a better place.

According to the invitation sent by the Masonic Home, “We recognize the dedication you demonstrate and the long hours and often difficult work that you do. For providing this valuable service to our community, we would like to say thank you and demonstrate our appreciation by treating you to lunch.”

While lunch is served, Masonic Home staff will provide free car washes to the guests of honor.

The City of Oxford and Oxford Parks & Recreation announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration for Hix Dog Park, the first dog park in Granville County. The event will take place Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the park located at 313 E. Spring Street in Oxford.

Granville County Animal Control, the Humane Society of Granville County, Community Partnership for Pets, local vets, vendors and more will be in attendance.

A pet ID tag machine, microchip clinic, low-cost rabies vaccinations, low-cost spay-neuter information and dog adoptions will be available.

Hix Dog Park was made possible by a grant by the Granville County Recreation Advisory Committee.

The Granville County Animal Advisory Committee will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Granville Expo and Convention Center located at 4185 Highway 15 South, Oxford.

The purpose of the special meeting is to hold a hearing for a citizen contesting a Dangerous Dog Declaration.

Granville Co. Board of Education to Meet Thurs., June 28

The Granville County Board of Education will meet for a regular board meeting Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 6 p.m. at the Granville County Public Central Office, 101 Delacroix Street, Oxford, North Carolina.

The board will also meet in a Closed Session for Personnel/Attorney-Client Privilege in accordance with N.C. General Statute 143.318.11 (a)(6), 143-318.11 (a)(3), 143.318.11 (a)(5) and Section 115C-321 on this evening.

Oxford Public Safety Committee Meeting, Thurs., June 28

The Public Safety Committee for the Oxford Board of Commissioners will meet on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in the First Floor Training Room, City Hall, 300 Williamsboro Street.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss stop signs on Spring Street, parking spaces, and speeding.

Oxford’s First Alive After Five of 2018 Rescheduled for Thurs., July 26

Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 26, 2018, as the rescheduled (due to weather) Alive After Five event brings fun and entertainment to downtown Oxford.

The first Alive After Five event of 2018 will be held in downtown Oxford’s parking lot at Littlejohn, Main and Gilliam Streets, to celebrate the 15th anniversary.

Gary Lowder & SMOKIN’ HOT Band will be the performers for the evening.

This band is “known as a Soul, R & B party band,” based out of North Myrtle Beach, SC.  Their musical repertoire coves decades of hits from your favorite artists and genres of music including soul, rhythm and blues, funk, reggae, jazz standards, country, 50’s, 60’s and Carolina Beach Music.

In addition to performing some of the most current hits that are topping the charts today, the group has had many successful chart-topping hits on local radio and internet stations across North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida.  Gary Lowder & SMOKIN’ HOT are comprised of multi-talented musicians who have come together to produce incredible performances each and every time they take the stage.

Interested concession vendors are asked to contact the Granville County Chamber of Commerce by Monday, June 25.

Also, approximately 60 volunteers are needed at check-in tables and beverage stations.
