CALEA Assessors To Review N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement for National Accreditation

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will be visiting the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Branch of the State Bureau of Investigation on Tues., Nov. 13, to inspect aspects of the agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

The purpose of the assessment is to ensure ALE meets approximately 180 CALEA standards to achieve accredited status.

“By undergoing this voluntary submittal of intense scrutiny and peer review from the commission, ALE will demonstrate to the citizens of North Carolina that their state law enforcement agency is among the finest in the nation, exemplifying professionalism, accountability and transparency,” said Kelton Brown, ALE Branch Head.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the public are invited to offer comments directly to the assessment team during a public information session. The event will be held on Tues., Nov.13, at 4 p.m. at the State Bureau of Investigation auditorium, 3320 Garner Road, Raleigh. SBI Concludes Littleton Death Case

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Littleton Police Department have concluded their investigation into the deaths of three family members whose bodies were found June 9 at 1010 Kirkland St. They determined the deaths were a murder-suicide case. This is in agreement with the findings of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner which listed the manner of death for Charles Davis as suicide and homicide as the manner of death for Gladys Davis and Antonio Mills.

Littleton Police Department requested the SBI’s help after doing a welfare check at the Kirkland Street home. The officers had to force entry into the house where they found the bodies of 75-year-old Charles Davis, his wife, Gladys Davis, 76, and their grandson Antonio Mills, 41.

“The SBI did a thorough investigation into this tragic case,” said Special Agent in Charge Anthony Jernigan. “Evidence conclusively pointed to a murder-suicide. I appreciate the work done by the Littleton Police Department and the SBI agents from the Northeastern District Office.”

Davis Pleads Guilty to Second Degree Murder of Pressley

Warrenton, NC – Marquis Davis pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, in the 2015 murder of Michael Pressley in Warren County. The acts occurred in the early morning hours of August 9, 2015, when six men from Oxford, including Michael Pressley and Jerry Henderson, traveled to the Connect 25 nightclub in Warren County.

As the six men were leaving Connect 25, they were fired upon by individuals traveling in a GMC Sierra truck driven by Marquis Davis and also occupied by Kadeem Grooms, Darren Alston and Montrell Davis. Michael Pressley, a passenger in a Chevy Tahoe, was shot and died as a result of his wounds. Jerry Henderson, the driver of the Chevy Tahoe, was shot in the back and was treated for his injuries at Maria Parham Hospital.

Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Henry W. Hight, Jr. sentenced Mr. Davis to 157-201 months active in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. This case was scheduled for trial the week of September 4, 2018, in Warren County Criminal Superior Court, however, the plea was entered in Vance County Criminal Case Management Court on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Darren Alston and Montrell Davis previously plead in the matter, and Kadeem Grooms was convicted by a Warren County jury of First Degree Murder and related charges during the week of April 30, 2018.

This matter was investigated by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
