The Local Skinny! Middleburg Baptist Church BBQ Plate Fundraiser September 20th

The Middleburg Baptist Church Brotherhood is having a barbecue plate fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Justin Simmons, a member of the men’s group that is organizing the event, said plates will be ready for pick up beginning at 12 noon. The cost is $15 and includes baked beans, potato salad, slaw, bread and homemade desserts – courtesy of the church’s Women on Missions group.

The church is located at 80 N. Plummer Ave. in Middleburg.

Simmons said the goal is to provide at least 250 plates – just come on out to the church with cash or a check to pick up the plates.

Proceeds from the fundraiser help the Brotherhood provide financial support to local ministries including Rebuilding Hope, Inc., as well as providing school supplies for E.O. Young Elementary and providing gifts to needy children at Christmas.

St. John Baptist Church to Celebrate Ministry of Music, Sun. July 15

St. John Baptist Church, Middleburg, NC will be celebrating our Ministry of Music, Bro. Ernest Owen Anniversary Program on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at 3 p.m.

Appearing on the program will be Big Ruin Creek Gospel Choir, The Firm Believers, Concord Male Choir, Gospel Messengers, Sandy Grove Gospel Choir, Spring Street Gospel Ensemble and Rowland Chapel Gospel Choir.

Rev. Cora Boyd of Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church will be the Mistress of Ceremony.

The public is invited to attend.

Vance County Announces Keith Duncan as Fire Marshal

Vance County is pleased to announce the hiring of Keith Duncan as the County Fire Marshal beginning on November 14th. In this new position, Mr. Duncan will serve as the county’s liaison to the Volunteer Fire Departments and will be available to assist them with insurance ratings, training and other needs. He will serve as the county’s lead fire investigator and will be responsible for conducting fire prevention inspections of local schools, businesses and churches as required by the state. He will also lead the county’s fire prevention education efforts.

 

Duncan has spent the last 8 ½ years as fire marshal for Halifax County, NC and has an extensive fire background and qualifications. Mr. Duncan previously spent nearly 20 years as a fire lieutenant with the City of Roanoke Rapids, NC and has certifications as a fire fighter II, fire officer I, hazardous materials operator, emergency vehicle driver, and as a fire instructor II. Mr. Duncan holds a level III Fire Inspector license in addition to certifications in building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes.

 

Duncan is a knowledgeable individual and a welcome addition to the county’s management team and the Vance County community.

Vance County Woman Arrested and Charged with First Degree Murder

On Friday, August 27th at approximately 12:40 p.m. deputies with the Vance County Sheriff’s Department received a call to 170 Bill Bragg-Morton Road in Vance County. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Terrance Leneil Williams, 33, of 871 Warrenton Road, had suffered an apparent gun shot wound.

After further investigation, Kedesha Shontrell Williams, 23, of 70 Pine Forest Drive, Henderson was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. She is in the Vance County Detention Center awaiting an initial appearance in court. She has no bond.

Kedesha Williams is a close friend of Terrance Williams.

This investigation is ongoing and no other information can be released at this time.
