McGregor Hall is Going ‘Shrek’ Green With Children’s ‘Soiree in the Swamp’

Join Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and all of their friends for a “Soiree in the Swamp” at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center in Henderson.

Children of all ages will enjoy yummy delicacies, entertainment by Shrek and his friends and pictures with their favorite characters.

Activities will be held on McGregor Hall’s stage in the swamp set on Saturday, October 26 and Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 2 p.m.

All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

If you or your children enjoyed last year’s “Tea With Belle” event, then you’ll love Shrek and Fiona’s “Soiree in the Swamp!”

Area Churches to Hold ACTS Benefit Concert at McGregor Hall

Several local churches will participate in the “Joyful Noise” concert at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $8 and will be available at the door. Proceeds from the concert benefit ACTS of Vance County.

Featured groups and performers include First Baptist Church, Clearview Baptist Church, Harriet Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, Work in Progress with Roy Burroughs and Lynn Cooper.

McGregor Hall Announces Audition Dates for ‘Black Nativity’

Be a part of the retelling of Christ’s birth through gospel song and movement! “Black Nativity” incorporates the poetry of Langston Hughes with drama, dance, and both contemporary and traditional gospel song.

ALL actors of ALL appearances are welcome.

You may choose to audition on either Saturday, September 14 at 10 a.m. or Sunday, September 15 at 3 p.m. You may subsequently be asked to attend a callback audition on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m.

Auditions will be held at McGregor Hall, 201 Breckenridge Street in Henderson. Please enter through the backstage door facing Winder Street at the top of the handicap ramp.

There will be a movement component for the auditions, so please wear appropriate shoes and clothing.

The production opens on Thursday, December 12 with two daytime school field trip performances. There will also be evening performances at 8 p.m. on December 13-14 and a 2 p.m. matinee performance on December 15.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, October 7. Onstage chorus members may be asked to purchase or rent costumes at their own expense.

McGregor Hall Announces Audition Dates for ‘Shrek the Musical’

McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center announces audition dates for “Shrek the Musical” directed by Mark Hopper.

Choose to audition either Saturday, August 17 at 10 a.m. or Monday, August 19 at 7 p.m. Callback auditions will be held Wednesday, August 21 at 7 p.m.

Auditions will be held onstage at McGregor Hall. They will consist of a cold read and musical material that will be taught as part of the audition. You may choose to bring 16 – 32 bars of a prepared piece (not required).

Performances will be October 24 (two daytime school performances), October 25 & 26 at 8 p.m., October 27 at 2 p.m., November 1 & 2 at 8 p.m. and November 3 at 2 p.m.
