Maria Parham Health Employee Receives Certified Cardiovascular Care Coordinator Certification

The ACC Accreditation Services is pleased to announce that Nancy Reavis of Maria Parham Health, has achieved recognition as a Certified Cardiovascular Care Coordinator.

As such, Nancy has demonstrated an enhanced skill set in team building, process improvement, strategic data utilization, provider education, and project management. Having successfully completed the cardiovascular Care Coordinator training and passed the certification examination, Nancy is permitted to use the designation “CCC” on business cards and correspondence.

“Nancy’s hard work and dedication to earn this certification represents the commitment our health system has to providing excellent cardiac care to our community,” stated Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer of Maria Parham Health.  “Her role as our Chest Pain Coordinator is vital in our cardiac care and coordination for our patients. This is just another piece in our expanding cardiology care and services at Maria Parham Health. “

The purpose of becoming a Certified Cardiovascular Care Coordinator is to earn recognition as an individual who has acquired the knowledgebase and skill set to be successful in the coordinator role. The objectives of certification are to:

  • Promote standards of competency for coordinators in the leadership role
  • Promote professional and hospital success by helping coordinators define and obtain the requisite knowledge and skills to fulfill their responsibilities effectively
  • Provide special recognition to those coordinators who demonstrate mastery of an acquired body of knowledge and skills in the cardiovascular continuum of care through successful completion of the certification process

Founded in 1998, ACC Accreditation Services is a nonprofit international organization dedicated to reducing cardiac deaths and disease worldwide. Our mission is accomplished by providing education and process improvement based accreditations and certifications for healthcare facilities seeking recognition for their commitment to excellence. Jennifer Woodlief Named Maria Parham Employee of the Month

Maria Parham Health has announced Jennifer Woodlief, HR Specialist in the Human Resources Department, as Employee of the Month for February. Jennifer has been employed at Maria Parham Health for almost 11 months and is already an example of an exceptional employee. Jennifer has lived in Vance County since she was eight years old and still calls this her home. Jennifer is married and she and her husband, Joe, have three children; Hunter and Madison who are nine and Bryson who is eight. After high school, Jennifer earned her Associates Degree in psychology from the University of Phoenix. . When she is not working, Jennifer enjoys watching her children play sports, photography, camping, hunting, fishing and painting.

VGCC Advisory Committees hold annual meetings

Citizens from Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties came together at the Main Campus of Vance-Granville Community College on Oct. 25 as the college’s advisory committees held their annual meetings.

VGCC’s 38 advisory committees are made up of people from the communities served by the college who have worked in the fields for which the college offers training. Committees advise not only curriculum and continuing education programs, but also VGCC’s South, Franklin and Warren campuses, the Small Business Center and other departments. Many committee members are VGCC alumni. Each fall, these committees meet on campus with the heads of the programs they advise.

At the Oct. 25 meetings, VGCC faculty and staff communicated with advisory committee members about new developments in the academic programs, about how to tailor classes and training to meet employment needs, and about changes in the workplace. Committee members made suggestions on what the college should be doing to enhance or adapt instruction.

Holding its first meeting was the advisory committee for one of VGCC’s newest degree programs, Histotechnology. Sheila Deloney, a certified histotechnologist and assistant administrative director for anatomic pathology and autopsy services at UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, was elected as the committee’s first chair. Dr. Dianne Dookhan, a pathologist who works at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson, among other facilities, was elected vice chair.

Students in VGCC’s Culinary Arts program prepared a reception in the Civic Center, preceding the meetings. The menu included Dijon crusted pork loin, seasonal vegetable succotash, polenta with a mushroom cream sauce, beef roulade filled with peppers, spinach, carrots and provolone cheese, herb roasted red potatoes, various pasta selections and assorted desserts.

In remarks during the reception, Dr. Stelfanie Williams, the president of VGCC, thanked the advisory committee members for serving and supporting the college. “Our Advisory Committees are important to us, because they connect the college with our communities, meet the needs of our local employers, and maintain bonds with our alumni,” President Williams told the attendees. “Your input, your leadership, and your advocacy strengthen our academic programs.”

H/V Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Maria Parham’s New Wound Center

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of The Advanced Wound Center’s new location with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 14 at 4:30pm at their Ruin Creek Road location.  “This is only one of more ribbon cuttings to come,” said Brian Sinotte, CEO, Maria Parham Medical Center.

Dr. Joseph Franklin, Medical Director, made remarks about the new advanced technology of the center and that his overall goal is to bring care to those that can’t go to larger healthcare facilities.  Remarks were also made by other representatives from the hospital, city, county and state officials about The Advanced Wound Center and how MPMC continues to grow and serve the needs of the community and surrounding areas.

At MPMC Advanced Wound Center, their team of providers help individuals struggling with wounds get on the fast track to recovery by managing their persistent wounds and ulcers with the latest technology and treatments.  In just the last five years, The Advanced Wound Center has had over 20,000 visits.

The new center offers two chambers for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), an advanced therapy for patients who suffer from chronic wounds that are not responding to traditional therapies. Patients are placed in a pressurized chamber where they breathe 100 percent oxygen. The treatment delivers more oxygen to the body’s tissues, helping to heal wounds, save limbs and repair extensive tissue or bone damage.

It is a pain free approach to treating more than a dozen medical conditions and is approved by Medicare to treat patients with a  variety of medical conditions.
