Sixteen Year-Old Dies From Gunshot Wound

Press Release- May 2, 2017

On Friday April 28, 2017, at 4:50 p.m. members of the Henderson Police Department responded to the area of the 100 block of W. Rockspring Street in reference to someone being shot. Upon arrival, officers located George Juan Mayo, 16, with a gunshot wound. Mayo was transported to Duke Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries on April 29, 2017. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was contacted to assisting with the investigation.

A fifteen year-old male juvenile has been charged with Murder with Malice and is in custody. The juvenile’s information is being withheld due to his age.

Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers Approve New Text-a-Tip Program

Henderson, NC – Henderson and Vance County Residents will now be able to text the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers along with the traditional phone in method to report crime.

Kevin Bullock, the president of the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers said, “We’re still in the early stages of setting up our local Text-a-Tip program, but once completed, the Text-a-Tip will allow anyone with a cellphone to not only call 252-492-1925, but text in a crime they witness as well. Other Crime Stopper groups across North Carolina are using this technology with great success to reach younger audiences.”

The program will be ready to go later in the year.

Henderson Police Chief Marcus Barrow said, “Text-a-Tip will put us in contact with a new generation and also give others another simplistic way of reporting criminal activity anonymously.”

Henderson PD Crime of the Month – Individual Robbed at Henderson Food Mart

On December 24, 2016 at approximately 9:45 PM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to Henderson Food Mart in reference an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers found that a Mr. Jason Rodriguez had been robbed while transporting an unknown subject. Mr. Rodriguez stated that he was lost and that the suspect was picked up to provide directions. Mr. Rodriguez was struck in the face two times by the suspect. Taken from Mr. Rodriguez were US currency and a cellular phone.

Illegal Sale of Fake Goods in Henderson – Press Release

Press Release: January 6, 2017

On January 5, 2017 around 5:36 PM, members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant at 117 S. Garnett Street, Henderson, in reference to a complaint received regarding the illegal sale of counterfeit goods.

During the execution of the search warrant various items were seized including: seventeen (19) jackets, four (4) sweaters, two (2) hats, (10) wallets, five (5) watches, fifteen (15) purses, fourteen (14) pairs of boots, ten (10) headphones, and U.S. Currency. The items seized are believed to be counterfeit goods with the markings of Beats by Dre™, The North Face®, MICHAEL KORS®, and UGG®.

Charges in this case are pending further investigation.

Shooting reported on East Andrews Avenue in Henderson

On November 24, 2016 at approximately 1:12 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 614 E. Andrews Ave in reference to property damage to a residence. Upon arrival, officers found that a bullet had traveled through the front door of the residence. Officers also learned that the shooting that took place was between an unknown male subject standing in front of the residence and subjects in the parking lot of 517 E. Andrews Ave. (Quick Stop). There were no reports of physical injury to the occupants of the residence.

Vehicle B&E Reported at Time Warner Cable in Downtown Henderson

On November 28, 2016 at approximately 10:00 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 215 Young St, Henderson (Time Warner Cable) in reference to a vehicle breaking and entering. Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who stated that sometime during the weekend someone broke into and entered one of their company vehicles (2008 Ford Escape). The reporting party advised that nothing appeared to have been taken.

Henderson PD News Release

On July 22, 2016 at approximately 11:00 p.m. officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 1041 East Montgomery Street in reference to a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found Qualik Shearin, 20, of 1041 East Montgomery Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. Vance County EMS arrived and transported Shearin to an area hospital for further medical treatment.

Henderson PD Press Release – Shooting

Press Release: May 16, 2016

On May 15, 2016, at approximately 4:00 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 1524 Dabney Drive in reference to a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found Corey Cheek Jr, 21, of 315 Davis Street, Henderson, suffering from a gunshot wound. Vance County EMS arrived and transported Mr. Cheek to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Tamar Unique Daye, 24, of 112 Old Baker Street, Oxford has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. She was placed in the Vance County Jail under no bond. The investigation at this time indicates that Corey Cheek and Tamar Daye were involved in a domestic relationship.

Break & Entering & Larceny Case:

On September 19, 2015 at approximately 10:57 A.M., Henderson Police Officers responded to 1034 South Williams Street, in reference to a Breaking and Entering and Larceny. Upon arrival, officers talked to Mr. Joseph Yourk, who stated that someone had broken into a storage facility and removed 20 tractor low pro tires and a transmission jack. Stolen Vehicle Case:

On February 02, 2016 at approximately 6:20 P.M., officers responded to the area of Lamb Street, in reference to a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, officers talked to Alonzo Jamine Ellis of 360 Spring Street, who stated that someone had stolen his 1993 Saturn vehicle, blue in color, license DFL-2242. Larceny Case:

On December 30, 2015 at approximately 6:56 A.M., Vance County Sheriff’s Deputies were on patrol and found that someone had cut the fence at Quality Equipment, 70 John Deer Road. While on the property, the Deputy found a John Deere 60 inch zero turn mower missing.
