Perry Memorial Library Announces Fall 2019 Youth Programs

Perry Memorial Library, 205 Breckenridge St., Henderson, announces their 2019 fall lineup of youth programs. Fall programs run September – November and include:

Totally Tweens – Ages 8 – 12, Mondays @ 5 p.m. Program themes vary by week.

Story Explorers – Ages 5 – 11, Tuesdays @ 5 p.m. Explore books and stories in creative ways.

STEAMworks – Ages 10 – 14, Wednesdays @ 5 p.m. Weekly lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

Books & Babies – Ages Birth – 2, Thursdays @ 10:45 a.m. A lap-sit program focusing on pre-reading skills.

Mother Goose Storytime – Ages 2 – 5, Thursdays @ 11 a.m. Songs, books, music and crafts.

LEGO Fun Club – Ages 5 – 13, Thursdays @ 4 p.m. Free build, drop-in program offered year-round.

December is program planning month for the library; youth programs resume January 2020.

Emergency Plan, Golf Cart Ordinance Topics for Public Safety Meeting

The Henderson City Council’s Public Safety Committee will meet on Friday, September 20, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Large Conference Room at City Hall, 134 Rose Avenue in Henderson.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Emergency Operations Plan Update, Proposed Golf Cart Ordinance and IT Services Update.

The public is welcome to observe.

Ballet Arts to Hold 220 Seafood Fundraiser

The Ballet Arts All Stars in Henderson will hold a Fish Fry Fundraiser to support dancers’ competitions on Monday, September 23, 2019, from 4 until 7 p.m. at 220 Seafood Restaurant.

Plates will include trout, slaw, french fries and hush puppies for $7 per plate. Eat-in or take out (beverage provided with eat-in meals only).

All plates must be picked up by 7 p.m.

Please come out and support the Ballet Arts’ dancers!

Vance Co. Board of Elections Announces Early Voting Schedule

Early voting for the City of Henderson election begins Wednesday, September 18 and ends Friday, October 4. The official election day is Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Early voting will be held at the Vance County Board of Elections Office located at 300 S. Garnett Street in Henderson, NC.

The submission of absentee ballots by mail began Friday, September 6 and ends Tuesday, October 1. Anyone that would like to request a ballot can call the BOE office at (252) 492-3730.

Kerr Lake Country Club to Host ‘My Little Hero’ Golf Tournament

Kerr Lake Country Club will host the “My Little Hero” golf tournament on Saturday, September 28, 2019. This is a four-person, Superball event.

Lunch will be served to golfers prior to the tournament’s shotgun start at 1 p.m. Golfer’s lunch and dinner are included in the tournament’s $75 fee.

There will also be a silent auction, kids’ activities from 1 until 4 p.m., chicken plates and a performance by the Denver Nixon Band from 5 until 9 p.m.

Tickets for additional chicken plates are available now for $8 at Skipper Forsyth’s BBQ.
