Community Voices Leadership Program Announces Remaining Session Dates

Community Voices Leadership Development Training for Vance County

This training series is designed for:

  • People who want to be trained to help others to discuss critical community issues.
  • People who want to create a shared vision for their community’s future.
  • People who are interested in learning good listening and communication skills.
  • People who are willing to volunteer their time to implement a community action plan in support of this community effort.

The training session began with a tremendous kick-off session on April 9, 2019, and we want to keep the momentum going. The sessions will be held nearly once a week and will run through late-June over the next 7 to 8 weeks. Members of our community who have been trained to serve as facilitators for this program will be running the sessions. We plan to conclude the training program with an Action Forum & Graduation in June after the holiday season.

Sessions are held at the Vance Co. Regional Farmers Market, 210 Southpark Drive in Henderson at 6 p.m. on the scheduled dates below.  Some adjustments may be made to the schedule as needed.

‘Community Voices’ Leadership Program Needs Concerned Citizen Participation

The City of Henderson and surrounding areas in Vance County need concerned citizens who are willing to lend themselves to community-­wide dialogue and problem-solving. “Community Voices” can show you the way.

The “Community Voices” program gives the public a chance to identify the issues the community faces and provides effective strategies to address those issues.

The community is invited to learn more about the program and get involved by attending the next session on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 6 p.m. Sessions are held at the Vance Co. Regional Farmers Market, 210 Southpark Drive in Henderson.

Communities everywhere need more people to step forward and lead their neighborhoods to solutions for issues and problems they are facing. The City of Henderson and surrounding areas in Vance County need concerned citizens who are willing to lend themselves to community-­wide dialogue and problem-solving. “Community Voices” can show you the way.

“Community Voices” provides free leadership development for public decision making. It helps ordinary people build leadership skills, teaches problem-­solving skills which help to get things accomplished. It develops decision making which brings people together and strengthens the skills and talents of individuals with untapped leadership potential. It gives community members an actionable, self-­directed training program.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at 6 p.m., a public kick-off session will be held at the Vance County Regional Farmers Market located at 210 Southpark Dr. in Henderson (off Beckford Dr.). Please join us to find out how “Community Voices” can help your community pinpoint issues and problems and move forward.

Concerned citizens, existing community leaders, and representatives from all community-based organizations are encouraged to attend. The goal of this kick-off is to introduce the “Community Voices” program and give residents the chance to define the issues they face, collectively as a community, and to find ways to solve them.

Community Voices Program Continues Tonight

Community Voices group meets again tonight at 6-8 p.m. at the Vance County Regional Farmers Market for training with Dr, Michelle Eley from NC A&T State University and local facilitators leading the session.

Last week, participants worked on listing some improvements they would like to see in our community.  Tonight we will explore narrowing those down and possible next steps.  If you came the first time but missed the next session, please come back.  We were excited to have some new people at the second session and want to keep all of you who have an interest.

Please arrive on time so we can respect everyone’s schedule.  (Only light refreshments may be provided by participants on a volunteer basis.)

Community Voices Session I

The Community Voices Program kick-off took place last week and was a great start to what we hope will be something wonderful for Henderson/Vance County–citizens working together to build a strong community.

Co-sponsored by NC Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, and Vance County Cooperative Extension, the training sessions already have members of our community who are trained to ready to serve as facilitators for this program.   And there is no cost to participate.

Even if you missed the kick-off, please come to Session I which will be held on Thursday, October 27, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Vance County Regional Farmers Market located at 210 Southpark Drive (off Beckford Drive) in Henderson.

Please call 252-438-8188 to sign up to attend next week’s session so we may have adequate supplies ready for you.  Also, please feel free to promote this to someone in your community who might like to participate.
