The Local Skinny! Fireworks At Cokesbury On Saturday

If you’re looking for some fireworks fun this weekend but don’t want to go all the way to Kerr Lake, you may want to head over to the Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department before dusk on Saturday, July 1.

Chief Adam Pegram said gates will open about 6 p.m. for the annual fireworks display. Folks can park across the street and then head over to where the action is – there will be music and food vendors will hamburgers and hotdogs, popcorn and sno-balls to enjoy.

“We’ll start shooting when the sun goes down,” Pegram said.

The Cokesbury event is the same evening as the county tourism fireworks display at Satterwhite Point, but Pegram said it’s not about competition – it’s about giving back to the community that supports the fire department.

“We’ve been working together for several years,” Pegram said. The goal is “having family fun at both locations and enjoying the holiday.”

Please keep in mind, however, that no matter where you enjoy the holiday, to be safe and considerate, Pegram reminds.

“Just be patient when we’re trying to exit and empty the parking lot,” he said.

“Come and enjoy yourself and have a good time,” Pegram said, but please remember to pick up your trash before you leave.

From the Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department:

It is with great sadness that we must announce that the Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Department will be canceling our fireworks that were scheduled for September 5, 2020.

With our State being mired in Phase 2 of the reopening, we cannot in good conscience risk a single person getting sick because we held our fireworks. Once again, we apologize for not being able to show our community how much we appreciate them.

As far as we know, we will still be conducting a stew sale on October 24. We will be figuring out the logistics of that at our September Board meeting and providing additional information at that time.

Cokesbury Fire Dept. Postpones July 4 Fireworks Extravaganza

The Cokesbury Fire Department has released the following statement:

Cokesbury Fire Department has been patiently waiting to make a decision on our 2020 Fireworks Extravaganza. The Board of Directors, after weighing the potential of restrictions still being in place on July 4, has decided to postpone the fireworks until Saturday, September 5, 2020.

We waited until now to see what level of attendance would have been allowed, and also to gauge the comfort level that our people had as it related to public safety and our ability to put on the best show possible.

Look for additional information on the rescheduled fireworks as it gets closer to September.
