Drop Off Letters To Santa At Aycock Rec Center Saturday

Bring the kids out to Aycock Recreation Center Saturday morning for a chance to write letters to Santa and even get photos with the Jolly Old Elf himself! The Grinch will be on hand as well, but he won’t be trying to keep Christmas from coming – promise.

The Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department is hosting the free children’s event from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, according to information from Crystal Allen.

Kids can send off their letters, enjoy some holiday goodies and take part in some special craft activities.

Parents and grandparents, make sure you bring your camera to snap some photos.

Upcoming Events for Toddlers Through Seniors at Aycock Rec. Center

Hip Hop Water Aerobics: is a fast-paced cardio workout in the water with low impact on your joints. The classes will be held on Mondays beginning February 4, 2019. Wahoo Swim Club: Attention Youth ages 5-17 years old! Do you love to swim? Well, Aycock Recreation Center has a new program that is perfect for you – Wahoo Swim Club. The goal of the Swim Club is to build good swimming foundations through good sportsmanship, and most importantly, teamwork. Tot Time: Tot Time is for toddlers ages 1-5 to enjoy equipment and toys that are age appropriate and designed to let them explore and learn new skills. Senior Prep Games: Senior Prep Games is designed for participants ages 50 or better who are planning to participate in the 2019 Senior Games. New Adult Co-Rec. Kickball Program Set to Begin Sept. 11 – Register Now

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks presents a new program – Adult Co-Recreation Kickball. Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, September 11, 2018.

You can register as a team or if you do not have a team, you can register as an individual and you will be placed on a team.

Entry fee will be $250 for each team or $20 for individuals. The season will be six to eight weeks in duration depending on the number of teams. Games will be played at the George Watkins Ballfields which are located at the Aycock Recreation Complex, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson.

Registration deadline is Friday, September 7, 2018, at 5 p.m. You may register in-person at the Aycock Rec. Center during the following times:

Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Sunday: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Registration Underway for Henderson-Vance Rec. & Parks’ Youth Cheerleading

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks announces that youth cheerleading registration is ongoing now through Friday, September 7, 2018. Register at Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson. Registration fee is $40; $30 for those that played softball in 2018.

This program is designed for youth ages 6 – 14. The participants will learn the basic skills and fundamentals of cheering. They will be assigned coaches through the Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department. Participants will practice cheering two to three times a week at the Old Aycock Park.

Cheerleaders will have the opportunity to cheer at youth football games for the Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks’ youth football programs. Home games will be played at Vance County High School.

Aycock Rec. Center Offering Fast-Track Swim Lessons for Ages 3 – Adult

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks will offer fast-track swim lessons at the Aycock Recreation Center for ages 3 – adults. Beginning Monday, September 10, 2018, lessons will take place each subsequent Monday and Thursday in September.

The fee for the series of six lessons is $30. Registration forms and fees are due by Friday, September 7.

Get a fast-paced cardio workout with low impact on your joints and muscles at the Aycock Recreation Center’s hip-hop water aerobics. Water aerobics is perfect for people of all ages who are able to touch in the 4-foot shallow end of the pool.

Registration Extended to Aug. 11 for Youth Volleyball, Football & Soccer

The Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department announces a registration extension until Saturday, August 11 for youth interested in volleyball, football or fall soccer.

Soccer and volleyball ages are 10 and under (Junior) and 14 and under (Senior).

Football playing ages are 8 and under; 10 and under; 12 and under.

Playing ages are determined as of August 1, 2018.

Registration fee is $40 – $30 if the youth played a sport in 2018.

Please register at the Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson.

Local Youth Ages 6-12 Needed for Tri-City Seahawks Football

Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks presents competitive football with the East Wake Football League’s Tri-City Seahawks.

Registration for this youth football league has been extended until Saturday, August 11, 2018. Those interested in participating are encouraged to register at the Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Rd., Henderson,

Cost is $40 for both in and out-of-county participants. Participants may be eligible for a fee waiver.

Age levels include:

Mini Mites – Ages 6 – 8

Mighty Mites – Ages 9 – 10

Pee Wee – Ages 11 – 12

Age will be determined as of August 1, 2018.

Aycock Rec. Center to Offer Youth & Teen Volleyball Skills Camp

Henderson and Vance County youth and teens ages 7 – 14, are you interested in volleyball camp? Would you like to enhance your skills and knowledge of the game?

The 2018 Volleyball Skills and Drills Camp will be offered on Monday, July 23, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aycock Recreation Center Gym, 307 Carey Chapel Rd, Henderson.

The instructor will be Shannon Allen, coach at Livingstone College.

Registration fee: $16
