Please Donate: ACTS Pantry Shelves “Dangerously Low – Again”

ACTS, the local food pantry, needs donations, and director Lee Anne Peoples has issued a plea on social media, along with some suggestions to create friendly competitions among different groups in the community. Peoples said the shelves are “dangerously low again,” and has asked for help.

“Please consider picking up a few of these items or even making it a friendly competition between churches, Sunday School classes, couples in a Supper Club, co-workers or any other groups, to see who can collect the most items,” Peoples wrote in a social media post Thursday.

Items may be brought to the food pantry, located at 201 S. William St. any weekday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call 252.492.8231 to learn more.

The list below contains suggestions. Please consider placing a couple of extra items in your shopping cart this weekend to donate to ACTS, which also serves a hot lunch during the week in addition to distributing boxes of shelf-stable food to those in need.

 

  • Items needed:
  • Ramen noodles
  • Pudding cups
  • Any type of canned meat
  • Canned fruit
  • Sized packs of cookies
  • Any type of canned soups
  • Packs of crackers
  • Juice pouches
  • Small boxes of cereal
  • Instant oatmeal packets
  • Dry pasta
  • Sugar – white or brown
  • Canned potatoes
  • 18 oz jar peanut butter
  • 18-20 oz jelly
  • Canned yams
  • Canned baked beans or pork & beans
  • Canned beans – black eyed peas and pinto
  • Crackers, in sleeves
  • Canned greens (collards spinach, turnips, etc.)
  • Canned diced tomatoes, carrots, peas
  • Dried beans
  • Canned mixed vegetables and creamed corn
  • #10 (gallon) cans of any fruit or vegetable

ACTS of Henderson Still Serving Meals; Food & Cleaning Supply Items Needed

ACTS of Henderson is still serving a hot meal each weekday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Meals are being served ‘walk-thru style’ in take-out trays outside in the parking lot.

ACTS Food Pantry remains open for eligible individuals and is continuing to deliver Mobile Meals to existing clients. BackPack Buddies has stopped temporarily due to school closure. Food donations are accepted weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

ACTS is located at 201 South William Street in Henderson, NC.

Food Pantry Needs:

* Canned fruit (all kinds) 

* Canned diced potatoes 

* Pork & beans 

* Baked beans 

* Diced tomatoes 

* Canned meats (chicken, tuna, salmon, chicken & dumplings, beef stew, etc.; pop-top preferable)

* Jelly 

* Canned mixed vegetables 

* Powdered milk (boxes with pouches) 

* Canned carrots 

* Canned tomato soup

* Jiffy corn muffin mix

* Flour (1-2 lb. bags) 

* Boxes of crackers (with sleeves—like Ritz or Saltines) 

* Dry cereal 

* Canned spaghetti sauce 

* Canned beans (like great northern, pinto, navy, black-eyed peas) 

* Canned tomato sauce 

* Boxed ‘Helper’ mixes (like Hamburger, Chicken or Tuna)

* Canned tomato-based soups 

* Packaged cookies 

* Instant mashed potatoes

Soup Kitchen & Cleaning Supplies Needs:

* Paper towels

* All-Purpose Cleaner with Bleach (From The Dollar Tree)

* Styrofoam take-out trays with lids

* Dawn dishwashing liquid 

* Canned cream of chicken soup

* Canned cream of mushroom soup 

* Dry pasta

* Gallon cans of string beans 

* Brown sugar

* Gallon cans of corn 

* Ketchup

* Gallon cans of green peas 

ACTS of Henderson in Need of Several Food Items

The ACTS Food Pantry in Henderson is currently in need of diced tomatoes, Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, smaller sized jars of peanut butter, tomato soup, packaged cookies, canned meats and jars/cans of spaghetti sauce.

Donations may be dropped off at 305 South Chestnut Street any time between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday – Friday. Arrangements can be made with ACTS for other dropoff days and times.

Please come to the back door of ACTS–the one directly across from First Baptist Church–and someone will be able to help you with your donations.

ACTS Low on Supplies & Food Items – Community Support Needed

Henderson’s ACTS Food Pantry is very low on supplies and food items and is in need of the community’s help to restock the shelves. The following supplies are especially needed:

  • Cream of Chicken Soup
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Sticks or Tubs of Margarine
  • Chicken Bouillon (cubes or powder)
  • Gallon-Sized Storage or Freezer Bags
  • Quart-Sized Storage or Freezer Bags
  • Sandwich-Sized Zippered Bags
  • Snack-Sized Zippered Bags
  • Pine-Sol Brand Cleaner

Donations may be dropped off at 305 South Chestnut Street, Henderson, between 8 – 10:30 a.m., and then from 1 – 3 p.m. Let us know if you need to drop off after 3 p.m. and arrangements will be made – (252) 492-8231.
