Governor McCrory Offers Reward in Harnett County Hit and Run

Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory announced today that the State is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the hit and run of Steven Daniels, Jennafer Schark and Kyle Straight.

On Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 11:12 p.m., Trooper C.S. Carter of the North Carolina Highway Patrol was dispatched to a fatal hit and run involving three pedestrians on US-421 north of Lillington. An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on US-421 when it struck the three pedestrians walking southbound on the same road and then fled the scene. Steven Daniels, age 14, was injured and taken to Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford and survived. Jennafer Schark, age 13, and Kyle Straight, age 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. The point of initial contact was on the roadway and evidence revealed a vehicle range from 1999 thru 2001, GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck or SUV, possibly white in color.
