Driver With Fictitious Plate Snapped Utility Pole In Half On Chestnut Street And Left Scene

On February 12, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., patrol units with the Henderson Police Department responded to the 400 block of South Chestnut Street in reference to a hit-and-run collision involving a utility pole.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle had struck a utility pole with enough force to snap the pole in half before leaving the scene.

Utility crews responded to the area to make necessary repairs and address the damage.

A witness described the suspect vehicle as a black SUV. Officers canvassed the surrounding area and located a black 2006 BMW X5 SUV with front-end damage and a fictitious registration plate at 812 High Street.

The driver was identified as 53-year-old Tracy Carter of Manson. Carter was cited for:

He is scheduled to appear in Vance County District Court on February 23. An additional charge for property damage is pending.
