Warrenton Festivals Oct 21 + Oct 28

A pair of Warreton Festivals will round out the planned special events for October.

Town of Warrenton Commissioner Mike Coffman told WIZS that on October 21st “Family Movie Night” will feature Rango and then October 28th is “Fright Night.”

Johnny Depp is “Rango.”  The movie takes place on the Warrenton Courthouse Square.  Admission is free.  It starts at 7 p.m., Oct 21.

“Fright Night” is also on the Courthouse Square at 109 S. Main Street.  There will be a live DJ, prizes, drawings, face painting and refreshments.  The event is 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Oct 28.  Local Spirit will lead a Ghost Walk at 8 p.m.

Carver Elementary Yard Sale & Silent Auction

Plan to attend the Carver Elementary School “Make a Difference Day” yard sale and silent auction at the school on Saturday, October 28, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the school’s PTO and Partnering, Educating, Empowering, Role modeling and Service (PEERS) student organization.

School staff, parents, students, business leaders and local citizens will be participating in the event. Everyone in our community is urged to volunteer at the event, donate items for the yard sale and silent auction and attend the event to purchase items for the fundraiser.

The goal of the day’s event is to fill Peer Cheer Pouches, involving one-gallon-size storage bags packed with new items such as toiletries, hand sanitizer, washcloths, non-perishable foods or snack items, school supplies, games, toys, stuffed animals, clothing and more. The Peer Cheer Pouches will be given to needy families in the Carver school area, a local shelter, orphanages, hospital and other charitable organizations. Carver’s goal is to fill 600 Peer Cheer Pouches.

World War II Aircraft at RDU Airport

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation and the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority are proud to host the Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour, giving people in the Triangle a one-of-a-kind chance to see living aviation history.

The tour features four living WWII aircraft – a B-17 Flying Fortress, a Consolidated B-24 Liberator, a B-25 Mitchell bomber and a P-51 Mustang – as well as educational displays and activities from NCDOT, RDU International Airport, the USO, the N.C. Museum of History, the National D-Day Memorial, Civil Air Patrol, SAS’ Data On The Fly STEM project, Wings of Carolina, and more.

This is a rare opportunity to visit, explore and learn more about these unique pieces of aviation history. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out, with tickets costing $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Veterans of the Second World War will be admitted for free. General admission tickets are available only at the event, not online or by phone. Visitors may also experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a 30-minute flight aboard these rare aircraft.

The aircraft will be open to the public at the following times, with the reserved flights taking place before and after the public openings:

Thursday, Oct. 19: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 20: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 21: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 22: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors should arrive at the airport via the Lumley Road entrance, to avoid creating traffic back-ups in the arrival and departure areas of RDU. Signage will be in place to guide motorists to Lumley Road via I-540. Parking for attendees is at RDU Park & Ride Lot 2 (near the observation deck), with handicap parking next to the event entrance. A shuttle bus will take attendees from the parking lot to the entrance.

GRANVILLE CHAMBER’S FALL SEAFOOD EVENT

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their seventh annual fall seafood event – a “CLUCK ‘N SHUCK”, to be held Friday, October 20th, 5:30 until 8:00 pm at The Red Barn – Golf Course Road, off Lake Devin Road, in Oxford.

The dinner menu offerings will be: steamed oysters, fried shrimp, fried fish, fried chicken tenders, slaw, buttered potatoes, hushpuppies, tea, Pepsi-Cola products and cold beverages.

The event will be held at the venue – The Red Barn – where it has been held the past four years. This location provides an incredible setting for those desiring to eat on the decks overlooking Lake Devin. Inside seating on the ground floor of The Red Barn will be available.

Advance ticket sales – $40 per person or 2 tickets for $75 – includes all-you-can-eat on premises.
