Henderson PD News Release

On July 22, 2016 at approximately 11:00 p.m. officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 1041 East Montgomery Street in reference to a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found Qualik Shearin, 20, of 1041 East Montgomery Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. Vance County EMS arrived and transported Shearin to an area hospital for further medical treatment.

 

 

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. If anyone should have any information related to this case, they are encouraged to call the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925 or the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $2,000 for information that may lead to an arrest. Callers may remain anonymous.

Henderson PD News Release

On July 29, 2016 at approximately 6:36 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 1215 Old Norlina Road (Henderson Fruit and Produce) in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers found that an employee, Steven Robert Mustian, had been held at gunpoint while opening the business. The suspects followed Mustian inside the business where an undetermined amount of US currency was taken. Mustian was able to escape the suspects without incident.

Henderson PD Press Release – Shooting

Press Release: May 16, 2016

On May 15, 2016, at approximately 4:00 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to 1524 Dabney Drive in reference to a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found Corey Cheek Jr, 21, of 315 Davis Street, Henderson, suffering from a gunshot wound. Vance County EMS arrived and transported Mr. Cheek to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Tamar Unique Daye, 24, of 112 Old Baker Street, Oxford has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. She was placed in the Vance County Jail under no bond. The investigation at this time indicates that Corey Cheek and Tamar Daye were involved in a domestic relationship.

“Walk the Beat” with the Henderson PD

On May 2nd, the Henderson Police Department is launching a new initiative called “Walk the Beat.” At designated times throughout the day, members of the Henderson Police Department will be out and about in the downtown area. This is in addition to our normal patrols. Officers will be joining the growing number of downtown walkers, runners, and cyclists in hopes of becoming healthier, and to invigorate the use of our attractive downtown landscape.

This will be a 7 day a week event and starting at 6am-9am, 12noon-2pm, and 5pm-7pm.

Henderson Man Arrested on Federal Gun Charge

On Tuesday, April 19th members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit arrested Jasmel S. Robinson, 33, 522 High Street, Henderson. Robinson was arrested after a federal grand jury returned a true bill of indictment charging Robinson with being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm.

Robinson was transported to Raleigh and placed in the custody of the United States Marshall Service pending a hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The case was investigated by the Henderson Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Investigations into violent crime and heroin trafficking continues and more arrests are expected.

Henderson Man Arrested on Federal Gun Charges

Press Release- Wednesday, April 13, 2016

On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit arrested a Henderson man on federal gun charges. William L. Ormond III, 28, 828 State Street, Henderson has been indicated by a federal grand jury on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.HPD william ormond 041316

Ormond, who was awaiting trial on state charges was taken into custody at the Vance County Jail and transported to Raleigh for a hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Ormond remains in the custody of the United States Marshall Service.

This arrest is the latest in an ongoing investigation into drug and gun crimes in the Henderson and Vance County area. The investigation was handled by the Henderson Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Police Chase Press Release

On Tuesday, April 05, 2016, Henderson Police Officers were dispatched to 101 N. Cooper Drive in response to a robbery that had just occurred. David Lee Bean, 24, 550 Wakefield Avenue, Henderson reported he had been robbed and provided responding officers with a description of a suspect vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle on Dabney Drive. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the driver sped away. Units with the Henderson Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol then pursued the vehicle in an attempt to apprehend the suspects. The pursuit concluded in Granville County after the suspects wrecked their vehicle near the Revlon Plant on Highway 158.HPD Jarquise Thorpe 040616

After further investigation, Henderson Police have determined that a robbery in fact had not occurred but another felonious offense had. Henderson Police have charged the driver Jarquise Vontrell Thorpe, 25, 104 W. Westbury Drive, Oxford with Felonious Obtaining Property By False Pretense.

Thorpe was placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a 20,000.00 secured bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 10, 2016.

The investigation into this matter was conducted by the Henderson Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol. All offenses in regard to the pursuit were handled by the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Additional charges in this matter may be forth coming.

Henderson Man Arrested on Federal Gun Charge

On Monday, March 28, 2016, members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit arrested a Henderson man on federal gun charges. Ismil Rasheed Jeffers, 22, 113 Breland Drive, Henderson was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant.

Jeffers has been charged after a federal grand jury handed down a one count indictment in this matter. The charges stem from an incident on October 19, 2015 in Henderson. Jeffers was placed into the custody of the United States Marshall Service pending a hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Vance County Sheriff’s Office Press Release Missing Person

Marcus Lamont Fields, age 36, of Poplar Street in Henderson was reported missing on January 2, 2016.

His body was discovered in a makeshift grave on Saturday, February 13, 2016. The site where the body was found is located in a wooded area a short distance north of the City of Henderson. An autopsy is being performed.

Five individuals have been charged in connection with the death of Fields. Chelsea J. Collier, Daniel B. Grissom, Jessica L. Lewis, and Chase Wiesner all have been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. Shannon Collier has been charged with accessory after the fact.

This investigation is still ongoing by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, NC State Bureau of Investigation, and the Henderson Police Department.

More arrests may be forthcoming. A clear motive is unknown at this time.

Press Release- February 2, 2016

Members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Section executed a search warrant at 420 Birch Street on Monday, February 1, 2016. As a result of the search, officers recovered a quantity of heroin and a stolen firearm.

Orlando Gibbs, 41, 420 Birch Street, Henderson was charged with trafficking heroin, possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver heroin and possession of a stolen firearm. Gibbs was placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a 100,000.00 secured bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Vance County Court on February 15, 2016.

James Henry Peace, 44, 420 Birch Street, Henderson has been charged with one count of trafficking heroin. Peace was placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a 100,000.00 secured bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Vance County Court on February 15, 2016.
