Shop with a Cop Returns for 2016

The Henderson Police Department and the Vance County Sheriff’s Office have partnered with the Vance County Department of Social Services to assist children and families in the City of Henderson and Vance County during the holiday season through the “Shop with a Cop” program.

Funds raised through the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce “Shop with a Cop” raffle and by generous donors will be used to help underprivileged children and struggling families who otherwise would go without during the holidays. Individuals and families selected will have the opportunity to “Shop with a Cop” with one of Henderson’s and Vance County’s law enforcement officers.

Individuals or families wishing to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program can pick up applications on October 18th, 19th, 27th, and 28th at the front desk of three locations: the Henderson Police Department at 200 Breckenridge Street; the Vance County Sheriff’s Office at 156 Church Street; and the Department of Social Services at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson.

Completed applications must be returned to any of the three pickup locations no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2016.

Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers Garners State Award

Last night at the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone, NC, the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers were presented the productivity award from the North Carolina Crime Stoppers Association. The Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers received this award for their help in continuing to build the working relationship between the Henderson Police Department and the Vance County Sheriff’s Office. Lorraine Watkins, the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers President, told WIZS, “It takes an entire board working together to receive an award like this. I’ve got a great board, and this is their reward for all their hard work.”

Four members of the Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers board of directors attended the North Carolina Crime Stoppers Association’s annual convention to meet fellow Crime Stoppers, generate new ideas, and offer assistance to other Crime Stopper groups across North Carolina.

Vance County Sheriff’s Office Press Release: Multiple Drug Busts

Sheriff Peter White announces the following arrests by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit:

Charges: Possession with intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Vehicle for keeping and selling controlled substances, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia

Joseph Vincent Motto, 1265 David Avenue, Henderson NC

Age: 26

Charges: Possession of Heroin, and Maintaining a Vehicle resorted to persons using controlled substances

The Vance County Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the above individuals during community policing operations in the area of Vanco Mill Road and the South Pinkston Street area. The arrests resulted in seizures of Heroin and Marijuana.

Vance County Woman Arrested and Charged with First Degree Murder

On Friday, August 27th at approximately 12:40 p.m. deputies with the Vance County Sheriff’s Department received a call to 170 Bill Bragg-Morton Road in Vance County. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Terrance Leneil Williams, 33, of 871 Warrenton Road, had suffered an apparent gun shot wound.

After further investigation, Kedesha Shontrell Williams, 23, of 70 Pine Forest Drive, Henderson was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. She is in the Vance County Detention Center awaiting an initial appearance in court. She has no bond.

Kedesha Williams is a close friend of Terrance Williams.

This investigation is ongoing and no other information can be released at this time.

Vance County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit Announces Marijuana Arrest

Timothy Randall Beckham, 560 Little Rosewood Lane, Henderson, NC 27537

Age: 53

Charges: Manufacture of Marijuana and Possession of Non-Tax paid Alcoholic Beverages

Bond: $7,000

The Vance County Drug Enforcement Unit with the assistance of NC National Guard Counter Drug Support Program arrested the above individual after spotting approximately 20 mature Marijuana Plants on the property of 560 Little Rosewood Lane. A further search of the property uncovered a homemade distillery and approximately four gallons or more of non-tax paid liquor and approximately 55 gallons of mash waiting to be processed. The estimated street value of the Marijuana is $1,200 per plant and $100 per gallon of non-tax paid liquor.

Charges: Possession of Cocaine, Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and Maintaining a vehicle resorted to persons using controlled substances

The Vance County Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the above individuals while conducting community policing operations in the areas of Bearpond Road and Raleigh Road in Henderson.

Robbery at Kerr Lake Bait and Tackle – Arrests Made

Two individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the August 9th robbery of Kerr Lake Bait and Tackle on Nutbush Road.

Leonardo Martinez, 30, of Cary is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiring to rob with a dangerous weapon. He is currently housed in the Wake County Jail under a $100,000 bond.

The second individual, Dalton Christmas, 23, of Raleigh was also charged in the robbery. He is facing a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiring to rob with a dangerous weapon. His bond is set at $400,000. He is also being held in the Wake County Jail.

They both are scheduled to appear in Vance County Court on August 29th.

Sad News – Drowning at Kerr Lake

On Sunday, July 31st at approximately 6:10 p.m., Vance County Deputies received a call about a possible drowning at Satterwhite Point.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that Keyon Philippe, age 16, of 208 Coley Road, Henderson had apparently drowned.

Philippe was out with family and friends and swam out to retrieve a ball. He never made it back to shore. A search and rescue mission was conducted.

Philippe’s body was located by Vance County Rescue personnel shortly before noon on August 1st.

Manufacturing Methamphetamine

Possession of Precursor chemicals for the Manufacture of Methamphetamine

The Vance County Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the above individual after discovering a campsite in the wooded area behind 600 South Cooper Drive in Henderson. The evidence that was recovered showed evidence of Methamphetamine production.

Vance County Sheriff’s Office Press Release Missing Person

Marcus Lamont Fields, age 36, of Poplar Street in Henderson was reported missing on January 2, 2016.

His body was discovered in a makeshift grave on Saturday, February 13, 2016. The site where the body was found is located in a wooded area a short distance north of the City of Henderson. An autopsy is being performed.

Five individuals have been charged in connection with the death of Fields. Chelsea J. Collier, Daniel B. Grissom, Jessica L. Lewis, and Chase Wiesner all have been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. Shannon Collier has been charged with accessory after the fact.

This investigation is still ongoing by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, NC State Bureau of Investigation, and the Henderson Police Department.

More arrests may be forthcoming. A clear motive is unknown at this time.
